Yea, that's all I was talking about is they came from somewhere down the line.

IMO There's a difference between someone who sells a few and a peddler. If you keep no pups, there's no way around it, you're a peddler and that's no bueno.

I will throw another variable into the mix as well. Mr. Edwards was known to split sire pups, especially if it were an older bitch and he was not expecting another litter from her. This was pre-DNA days so it was pretty much him making the call on what he knew about his dogs. The registrations/pedigrees were not always right but he always knew which was which. He made mental notes and in his time he was as sharp as a tack.

He made the call to put Stoney down. Stoney did not produce squat. There are a few dogs out there that have Stoney in their pedigree that did a little something. But when bred few ever went back by way of Stoney.

Mr. Edwards bred a lot of dogs. Placed a lot of stud dogs and always had a number of bitches to be bred. Mr. Edwards sold a lot of dogs and he had some 'special' friends that he placed a lot of prospects with to find out where they fit in the grand scheme of things. He placed a lot of the Stoney dogs in very capable hands and the result was always the same. After selling and placing dogs with people who were out there doing dogs he found out the Stoney dogs were just not where he needed to go. He made the call.

Did one or two here and there go on and make it, maybe. The word back then was they were not off of Stoney but only Mr. Edwards would know. Just like one of the great match bitches of all time, Molly Bee, only Mr. Edwards knew how she was bred. He confided his deepest secrets to a few and even they were different when repeated. Mr. Edwards never really had any intentions of giving up the family secrets.

If Stoney is there in the pedigree it is not the end of the world. Jump Around produced a extremely talented bitch in Sabotage but in the same litter Grunt was always looking for a place to hang it up. Same analogy, guys out there getting it done do not give away a good one. There is always a reason.

Dogs getting it down from Stoney are usually 75% or so other lines. And then there is always the chance there is no Stoney in there at all. Going that route will be very, very low percentages. S

Everyone of them had a few ways and means to put food on the table. They all bred and sold bulldogs. You can earn money doing something you love. They just sold and bred dogs that people wanted. Their names still survive because of the quality they provided.

....the only time some started makeing money on these dogs is when they b-came over-popular which was also the saddest time's for bull-dog's in general....but there not putting food in there kid's mouth's....if it support's the hobby,,well that's ok and the way to have it if it suit's ya....and ya know the pup's are going to like minded people....but unfortunealy some got over taken by the power of the dollar...and don't give a flying f**k who they sell to and their your peddlars....and some think their hero's...if you could say sell 2 pup's a week at 12-1500-dollars,,work out how many bitch's ya will need to have produceing,,then their's your stud/stud's...so how many dog's will you have to house+feed...??????,,,work it out and see can ya put your kid's thru colleage, food on the table+rent...etc/etc.....?????????????????//

Right! I can see making extra dough on the side but its hard to make money off dogs if your caring for them properly. Any pup I've ever sold has pretty much help offset the cost of whelping the litter from first stick to 6-8 weeks old. And then I normally eat the cost of the litter and any money from pups sold goes into hardware and housing for the ones I keep.

    Sincerely Yours, Cajun

....that's what i was trying get over cb...it,would be like any other bussiness if ya were trying to make money from it,,have to work out your outlay/inlay/etc/etc....so if ya can sell one or two to like-minded people well+good and helps ya support what your keeping+rearing for your-self......

Tons of money has been, can be and always will be made with not only these dogs, but any dogs. There are numerous ways to cut costs, keep large numbers of dogs and take care of them very well. Within the same series of posts about Stoney, Mr. Edwards would get letters from Wilson Electric asking him to cash his checks so they could balance the books. The dogs did it all for him for a long time.

It is nothing wrong with making money off the dogs if that is what one chooses to do. The only issue with doing so would be in paper hanging, lying, cheating and misleading to make the dollar. Just like any other sales profession. A used car salesman is not a bad guy as long as he isn't misleading the customer, same with the dogs.

....in any bussiness ya will notice the bigger it get's....the quality begins to suffer....if your prepared to operate like a puppy mill ya might make money,,but they all-way's end up closeing or being closed cause of lack of care/etc/etc..,out off interest,,can ya name any companys that made major money from only breeding dog's,and have been for many years.....and when ya say ton's of money,,???,,,the only one's doing that are champion greyhound breeder's...and there is something wrong selling these dog's to just any-body...??????????????ps:just my opinion's.....pss:if your in these dog's long time ya will find 9 out of ten will lie to sell ya a dog....peddlars

Carver sold so much bullyson seed he started dressing like a pimp. Selling puppies is not where the money is, or ever was, in breeding bulldogs.

.........so where's the money at then in breeding them....????......talk about a change in the weather.....lol....just like many other's at the time every fool and his mother was looking for a bulldog...they took advantage of the demand...at the time...it don't mean it was going to last...there is a few good breeders out there who will do ya right, just have to do your home-work...

Shit man I think best way to find a good breeder is call around and talk to people, you strike up a friendship with some people and at that point they'll be honest with ya.

....that's why it's a hobby, can be a lifetime hobby,,and if ya breed one or a few good dog's,maybe move 1/or/2 on to others in the hobby now+then it will help ya support your hobby and keep it at the top condition,,that way ya might get your-self a good name in the hobby,,some of the best breeders only have dog's for sale now+then....while peddlars will sell+tell ya anything ya want to hear...........?????????????

Good post, #265 by Danny B. Blew8bulls, you were quick to cast the peddler image in a wholesale manner, then in a latter post, seemed to provide a pretty fair differential. It was a bit of a flip-flop, albeit a positive one IMO. LOL

I agree with Danny B. also, that if there is anything wrong with the discrete selling of a dog, rather rarely, in order to support the well being of your dogs, then I invite someone to show me what that is. It would seem presumptuous to state that all who might are cutting their families short. That's where "discretion" comes into play, isn't it? Money doesn't usually come to anyone in designated slots, anyway. One usually spends it however it's necessary at any given time. I think we stretch reality a little when we bag and label so many without being privy to what they do and why. I'm one of the last to be exactly fond of non discrete peddling, but so often, those who show disdain for them, also adulate them. Makes no sense, and at the same time, I think we should be less apt to think we are privy to ALL things others do, including their reasons, based on what a few might do.

...the ball went all over the feild a few time's...lol...in a way in a country as big as the usa...it would be easyer to peddle anything giveing the population......cajun-b...got it right, i think when your looking after your charges the right way with proper houseing and feed/etc/etc..ya can make something to give your-self a good name as a breeder ...but there is a big difference b-tween a peddlar.+.a great breeder....yep,,it's all food for taught.....
