Oh yeah, they love eachother. They are still not left alone together.

We got them as pups from BYB's (before I know what I know now)

Bastian first, and then Bella. Bastian (4 years old) is my rock, he's the king of everything. He allows ALOT of the dogs that come in the house. He'll let a puppy chew on his face for hours without making a peep. No dog aggressive unless some dog comes in acting like he's the king....then there's a problem.

Bella is a doll, she's 3, She liked ALL dogs before that foster attacked her. After that she was not fond of adult female dogs. She has gotten much better though. Just the other day I had her outside with me and my IDIOT neighbot who NEVER leashes his dogs was walking down the street and his female dog comes running at Bella. I'm thinking "Oh great, here we go...."
Luckily Bella just sniffed her and that was that.

We have a Boston Terrier as well, Boscoe, he's 2. If there's ever a problem with my own dogs he's the one that starts it. We've been working on that.

Here's pics of some of the residents and fosters

I haven't read the instructions yet on how to post pics, but once I do I'll post some from that link (I know some people are too lazy to click on a link, me included!)

Hmmm.... The fight that happened in my home, I took them to the emergency vet with no problem. I was a crying blubbering mess though so maybe they knew it was not on purpose.

Also, the girl who runs the rescue I volunteer for has had numerous fights at her house and noone has ever questioned how they happened.

Seems a bit strange is all, maybe it's because we're chicks?

being that they are friends doesnt mean they are not licensed practicing veterinarians or "regular vets" what is a "regular vet"?! The statement was made in reference to you saying your animals are vetted.....my retort was simply we have close connections to ours so our animals are not without by far!
Would you take your business elsewhere if you had friends you trust and are excellent in what they practice ?
with friends as vets we also don't have worry about what it thought if we brought in a dog that was injured or deal with emergency vets not to mention the discounts!!!

Nah. I am a woman & I had a vet threaten to call the humane society on me when I brought two of mine in who had got to each other. So it's not a female thing.

It's a vets can be ignorant a..holes thing. Some are so brainwashed by that PETA bull that they'll report innocent ppl. You'd think they'd figure it out, I mean DUH!!! Dog fighters don't fight their own dogs against EACH OTHER! But some vets aren't the brightest bulbs on the tree I guess & if you mess around & take your dog to the wrong vet, you'll find yourself in jail & all your dogs euthed.

That is why some ppl prefer to use friends who are vets or vet techs instead of going to "regular" vets.

    Geez, okay...sorry.

If I had a vet friend I'd definitely take my animals to them. We get discounts at out vet for being a rescue.

Toby was by far the best foster dog we've ever had. I really wish we would have kept him. I found him in someone's back yard, chained to an old car. He was covered in ticks and fleas and the residence he was at was a rental. Apparently it was someone else's dog (not the renters), so I came back a few times to feed/water him and finally had enough. Right or wrong, I took him.

We kept him seperate for 2 weeks, then slowly started introducing him to all the other dogs. After about a month he was out with all the dogs, including Bastian. As soon as he sees another dog he immediately goes into a play bow.
So SWEET! *sigh* I miss him.

no need to apologize....you jumped to conclusions by me stating I took my animals to personal friends who are vets...your remark (why dont you take them to regular vets)sounded if I were involved in illegal persuits with my animals therefore i dont take them to vets i'm not associated with. As is your perception with well secured dogs and dogs kept inside. You made a statement that you are passionate about your animals as if no one that secures theirs is.
Everyone that visits this site for the most part is passionate about what they feed and concerned for the welfare of their animals, some have different means and situations that allow them use different methods of containing theirs. Keeping an animal secure is not cruel it's the owners neglect and irresponsibe actions that considered the cruel part. Yes, accidents do happen but you can't overlook the ones who have tried by all means to prevent them. Loose dog co-habitating is not by all means! Good luck I've said my peace. Thank you!

I'll admit, I am concerned when someone says they have friends vet their dogs. I guess I thought from your original post that these friends were not "regular vets". I apoligize for that.

Again, my dogs are only together when I am present. I think it's good to keep them social, atleast with eachother.

Is 440 your area code by chance?

Just curious, it's my area code.

lovebeingme - These dogs are not meant to be social w/ other dogs. they were created by humans for humans & a pittie would prefer human companionship over another dog's any day.

Is it great to be able to have 2 or 3 dogs loose or take a couple dogs where ever you go? Sure. But you are asking for trouble. I am not trying to be a jerk, telling you as someone who has been there & done that.

When we 1st got started we only wanted pets, so we got big, mild mannered UKC dogs. We could let them be loose together, but still every now & then something would set them off & it would be rumble in the jungle in my living room. In one case I almost had a dog outright killed in my hallway.

So just be careful. And please do not judge those who choose to keep their dogs contained in a secure manner - i.e. on a chain. It may seem "cruel" to you, but it is safest for the dog & allows the dog the most freedom.

    JMHO ...

Thank you to all the members for being civil and taking the time to answer questions and educate someone, this could have been ugly, but wasn't. Rep points will be given all around.

That being said, I want to point out something that many of us forget. Cultural Differences. Yes, we all live in the US of A, but how we keep our dogs and what we think is an acceptable means to contain our dogs differs by the region we live in, how we view our animals and a whole variety of other reasons.

When trying to explain chaining a dog, people often forget that when trying to explain to someone who has pet dogs and has never been around working dogs and has always been told that chaining is cruel.

Just something to keep in the back of your heads for the future.

To the OP, sorry about your loss. It's horrible to hear, and just remember the good times you had together...

To the person against outside dogs, I have three dog (lab/husky mix, Amstaff, and APBT). The Amstaff and APBT stay inside, and the lab/husky mix stays outside. She hates being inside, especially in the winter. She doesn't even go in her doghouse in the winter. In the summer if it's very hot, I'll bring her inside to the A/C. She doesn't crave human attention, because I bring them all for over an hour walk a day, and she gets tons of exercise and petting...Also, when I am not home, no one stays in the house. I won't trust my dogs alone together. Have they ever tried to fight each other? No, but I'm not taking chances. When I go out, all the dogs have their own areas and chains. Sometimes if it's the weekend, the dogs want to just be outside to watch.

It really depends on the dog I think. There are different degrees of DA, and some Pits are completely cold. Yes, most are not cold, but, every dog is different.

One day, mine not all get along, I'm aware of that, and I'm prepared to keep them seperate (in the house) if that does occur.

After this thread I'm not judging anyone for chaining, I said I somewhat understand at this point. It still rubs me the wrong way, but I'm not raving angry anymore. I will not judge you, but, in the same token, don't judge me for allowing my dogs to exist in the home together. Everyone I know near me anyway, keeps thier dogs in the house. In fact, every rescue around here would never adopt to someone who kept their dogs chained outside. Maybe it is a cultural thing Hoyden, even a geographic thing.

The only time I would have a problem with chaining a dog outside, is if the dog was not being cared for, if there was no shelter, if there was no food or water. That is animal abuse. Other than that, like I said earlier, some dogs love it outside. Example. Last night, i was on the phone with a friend and she was opening the door for her dog to come in. The dog did not want to come in. The dog is a big rottie/shepard mix. I told my friend to leave the dog and when she was ready to go to sleep, then bring the dog in.

Mott, I'm quite sorry for your loss. Accidents are a terrible thing, and I almost lost two myself yesturday because of the stupidity of another. I don't know what I would've done. I only hope that her pups mature into fine young bulldogs, and please you just as much.

Jaime, understand that a chain is merely a tool and cannot be responsible for harming a dog, be it physically or mentally. Chains, like crates or kennels, can be easily abused. But responsible owners realize the pro's and con's of all means of confinement.

Mine are yard dogs in the day, but come in at night. I must keep all 6 of them seperated, however. One can get along with another but wouldn't hesitiate to kill the other. It gets quite confusing, and in the end it's easier to simply seperate them all and not take chances. They do not need to socialize with other dogs.
