    Rat Catchers (1821) Landseer

Landseer became the most popular animal painter of the nineteenth century and was Queen Victoria's favourite artist. This scene was greatly admired by Géricault at the Royal Academy in 1821.

It depicts dogs which belonged to the artist. ‘Brutus’, the white terrier, is poised to spring at the rat poking up its head at the bottom right. ‘Boxer’, the Staffordshire bull terrier, menaces the cage.

He did some fantastic sighthound/lurcher paintings as well, some of my favourites. I've got a couple prints of his on my wall at home

Canis Anglicus Albus - The dog is an alaunt or early bulldog from England.
By Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522 – 1605) from Bologna.

Probably my favourite, the dog does have that sighthound x Bull hunting dog look.
