This site above is about the Belgian Groenendael. My father is pet sitting one now and after reading this page, I am alittle discussed with anyone who would own this type of dog but then again i dont know much about it completely. Naturally human aggressive, not quite safe with children, animal aggressive (can be expected from any breed of dog), and seemingly difficult to train. What are your thoughts. Just trying to expand my knowledge in the world around me. Definately not looking to get one.

Best for guard training, or police work. Maybe if your looking for a dog to guard your APBTs this would be a choice.

I'm not sure about this breed, but a lot of times when you have very highdrive working dogs like this the breeders who control the breeding stock do a really good job of screening owners. In other words yes, the dogs are a real handful, but those who own the breed stock make sure that there aren't many dogs out there to fall into the wrong hands.

Same thing with the Malinois(sp). They have been called "hairy biting machines on crack". They will bite their handlers. But good luck being some bozo off the street trying to get one. Ain't gonna happen. So the dogs almost always end up in the hands of people that can handle them. And all the dogs that go out have spay/nuter contracts that are signed to make sure someone dosen't set up a breeding operation and then just sell the dogs to whoever they please.

Quite a contrast to the world of the Pitbull.

My uncle had a Turvuren, which is basically a fawn Groenedael. It was a great dog. Super smart & great w/ us kids. I'd have no hestitations about owning a Turvuren or Groendael.

As for Malinois, I worked w/ many of them in the military & I'd have to say the "hairy biting machine" discription fits them to a tee. Definitley not a family dog!

As owners of a misunderstood & blacklisted breed, you would think we wouldn't jump on the media bandwagon about other breeds or condemn another breed based on the actions of one dog. We are asking others to do educate themselves & fully understand our breed, let's give them the same courtesy.

This is exactly what I was thinking!! We complain that people are so quick to judge our dogs but then we can turn around and do it to other breeds?? Makes no sense to me. Whatever happened to blame the deed not the breed??
