Yeah, the drill your son did is an old school BJJ drill. The art used to be more oriented towards self defense. Sport BJJ has advanced some of the technical aspects of the game, but it has, IMO, hurt the self defense aspect.

That drill your son did with the pole was an old school drill. Usually it is done with a partner. You wrap your legs around him and train crunches and throw punches at the top. The sport guys don't really do that much anymore, because in sport BJJ you just fall on your ass (pull guard) and wait until your opponent engages you. That is different from the old school way where you are controlling your opponents body. The type of Guard pull your son used to practice is done from a clinch and is effective for self defense.

There are some options even in a rural place (I hear NC is beautiful). Renzo (Gracie) made some really good videos that enable you to practice BJJ at home with a partner. Renzo was ALWAYS self defense oriented and still produces UFC champions to this day. I highly recommend them.

Having said that, since your son wrestled before he ever did BJJ he is naturally going to look for a takedown (or better yet use a striking art like Boxing or Muay Thai) on the feet.

Of course where we live, we practice what I call Ching Ching POW, LOL. That would be the sound of me sending a 223 or 9mm down the way for a little faggot like Kiwigirl to suck on

If your son is 26 and has a good job I would say absolutely that turned out well. I can't tell you how many people I know...multi millionaires, successful business men, doctors etc that had kids that turned out bad because they were shit fathers who never spent time with their kids. I tried to help this one kid, his father is worth 25 million dollars, but both of his kids died of drug overdoses. I don't like to judge, but if they put half of what they put into their kids that they did towards making money things might have turned out differently.

Yeah, you know, I really, really did try and give Biden a chance. I was displeased with Trump's final days and held off any criticism hoping that the Democrats might go back to the day when the party represented the interests of working families. I tried, I swear. These people are just evil, or plain nuts.

I was raised a Democrat, am still a moderate, liberal on some issues, but tings have gotten so insane I truly fear for my country. The American people are wising up to this utter nonsense and mark my words, unless he campaigns naked we are going to get Ron Desantis as our next president. The radical left that control our media are then going to piss and moan about DeSaantis when it is 100% the far left's fault that the American people backed him.
