That is a great question, thank you for being the first one to ask a question of that stature.

The answer to your question is:

The reputation feature is an add-on, which enables members to set other members' reputation in the community. The way that it works is each member will be able to "approve" or "disapprove" of each post. If the member thinks that the post is a good post and will benefit the community, they will approve of that post. On the other hand, if they think that the post could potentially be bad for the community, they would disapprove their post. If the member who is reading the post is undecided of the way he\she feels about the post, they simply do not have to add to that member's reputation.

The reason this feature is important for the community: In order to keep the site as clean as possible for the members without completely disallowing everything, there is a filtering system, which is settable via "Edit Options" in your user control panel (User CP.) This filter will allow you to hide posts that are posted by members with negative reputation points. The amount of negative reputation points you want to hide is also settable via "Edit Options" in your User CP.

The reputation power that you have is the number of reputation points that you give or take away from another member with each reputation click. Think of it, as more of a "reputation-altering power" and you should understand the concept.

    Details on Reputation Power:
    • Every 180 days, you will gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
    • Every 500 posts, you will gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
    • Every 100-reputation points, you will gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
    <h2>Q & A:</h2>
    1. How many posts must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? 50
    2. How much reputation must a user have before his reputation hits count on others? 10
    3. How many reputation clicks can a user give over each 24-hour period? 10
    4. How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again? 10
      <div style="float: right; right:0; top:0;"><img src="http://www.game-dog.com/forums/images/reputationss.gif"></div>
    5. How do we give users reputation points?---------->
If you have any questions, please reply to this post and we will answer it as soon as possible then will be added to the list above on this post. In order for this to be as useful as possible, each member must participate in its cause. In the long run, you will find it will be more useful than irritating. The way that the site is increasing with activity right now, I am confident that it will be doing much better when some of the major features, which I have discussed in the announcement forum, are released. If that is true, you will have many things you don't want to see but may be useful for some to sift through. It will make the forum as clean as possible for you.

    REPUTATION System

Im not sure I completely understand the REPUTATION system. When I go to add REPUTATION to someone which i have given it to previously......it tells me I have to spread around some.

So I do..........and go back and it tells me I have to spread it around somemore.

    a. What if I don't want to give it to anyone else? Are you forcing me to give REPUTATION to someone I don't feel deserves it and if you are then the system is screwed.

    b. Why are we limited on our REPUTATION? Should we not encourage those whose ideas we agree with and support them?

    c. Is this a valid system or just someones way of trying to control the outcome of what/who is given credability on this site?

    Re: REPUTATION System

Thanks for asking that... I didn't feel that it was necessary to mention unless somebody wanted to know more about that. I am trying to get the members to think and everything. If they can't figure something out or want to know more about something I want them to ask and then I'll clear it up about what they ask.

    1. What if I don't want to give it to anyone else? Are you forcing me to give REPUTATION to someone I don't feel deserves it and if you are then the system is screwed.
      • There are many members who post, in order to keep the reputations from being abused, each member is required to give 10 different people reputation points (good or bad) before they hit that same person twice.

    2. Why are we limited on our REPUTATION? Should we not encourage those whose ideas we agree with and support them?
      • You are also limited to 10 reputation clicks per day. If everyone seems to handle this well and starts working with it and using it for the posts that users make on the site, that may change. But to ensure that it is not abused and to be as fair as possible for each user, it is necessary right now.

    3. Is this a valid system or just someones way of trying to control the outcome of what/who is given credability on this site?
      • There are no outcomes as to who will get reputation points on the site. It is simply a way to voice your opinion about a person?s posts on the site without making everything completely public.

I'm still confused as to this rep give and take stuff. If someone thinks I put up a good post they can build my rep, right? Is this done confidentially or publicly. Will I see who thought what, or not? Does more rep carry more weight, and in what area?

The reputation recieved will be semi-public... everybody will see what has been said about posts that each person has made, but they won't see who give the reputation points to the person. It is a good way to let other people know how reputable a person is... if they have a negative reputation, you can filter out their posts and all in your user control panel.

Later there will be promotions and a good reputation will be required to advance... I won't say too much about it right now, I don't want everybody going crazy over it. But it would be wise for everybody to start using it as much as possible in order for it to be useful :)

I think I understand the rep. pts. . And green is good....red is bad.....what does gray mean?? I looked at my profile and I got a gray one, curious if it means something or what? THANX

The gray means it is neutral or that the reputation you are viewing didn't count because of the person's reputation power. If they're reputation power is zero, it won't affect your reputation.

  10. I think that also the whole point being for reputation power is to help this community stay fruitful and truthful.
