Sin, my rescue, was staying with my friend Ryan for a week while I was gone. He had a rescue he had just gotten who had a litter of 6 pups that were 7 1/2 weeks old so he had his hands full but he said he could take him. The owner of a dog he had rehomed (also a rescue) almost a year ago said that they had gotten a cat and she killed it so they can't keep her and they'd either give her back to him or she was going to be put down so he said to drop her off. (Whoo! Sorry about the run-on sentence) Needless to say he had too many dogs so he dropped Sin off at the humane society for the night expecting to pick him up in the morning. As he was leaving some guy told him he left a pit here yesterday and they wouldn't give him back so before he had even left the building he asked for him back and they said they have a no-adopt policy on Pit Bulls and he couldn't have him back. Ryan called me and I was back by morning to try to get him out. Ryan looks kind of like the thug type so I thaught maybe they didn't want to give Sin to him in particular so I tried. They said PETA had been bugging them for months to get on board with the no-adopt policy and they had made it official 3 DAYS AGO! She said she knew the dog I was talking about and he had been put down about 20 minutes after he was brought in. Sin, or Sam as we called him in public, was one of the sweetest dogs I have ever seen. He was great with my nieces and loved attention. When I sat on the floor with my nieces on my knees he'd sit between them and scoot from side to side bumping them off so he could have all the attention. He was truly a great dog and will be missed.

Yah, that's why HS doesn't ever need to be called. The first mistake was trusting any HS with a dog you don't expect to never see again. These groups are maniacal in their treatment of APBT. Makes me sick...

    Regards,

Sorry to hear of your loss. The first thing I would be doing is kicking my friends ass if he told me he would look after my dog , and then drop it off at a HS, no matter if he was looking after 50 dogs,, he told you he would look after him and he obviously did not! Just my opinion.

first off let me say i am SO SORRY for your loss. Sin was a beautiful dog and deserved to live out his life in full. i have had first hand experience with the HS and ABPT, which is where I got my red-nose, Dixie. she was only 10 weeks old, and had only been there for ONE day, and had my friend who worked there not called me the day Dixie came in, she would have been put down. i cannot stand the way HS treats our beloved dogs. furthermore, that is the BIGGEST load of crap i have ever heard. this is why we all need to fight against BSL!!! and kill a few PETA employees....god d@#n liberal hippy commie wanna-bes.....

When u take an animal to the Humane Society u wave all your rights of ownership,,it is in small print at the bottom of the page,,alot of dogs get euth'd before u even get back into your car,,I hate ppl that make threats that if u don't take the dog right this minute the dog is going to the Humane Society,,I hear that about 20 times a week,,I want to just beat the crap out of these ppl

I had something like this happen one time. My mom was made to give up my dog & they put her down when they took her in. I fought it & they got into all kinds of trouble. Now, they no longer put them down unless, they can't find a home.

I am so sorry for your loss. This is THE reason why I never trust anyone to watch my dogs. Not even my own family. I know your friend had the best intentions, but why didnt he drop off the other dog instead of yours? I would be so pissed. Well God bless and again sorry. He was a beautiful dog. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss. HS and PETA are a bunch of idiots. I think it was pretty lame that your friend took him there in the first place, but the fact that they wouldn't give him back even though he hadn't left was completely ridiculous. Someone needs to shut HS down.

I'm confused. Did he arrange an overnight stay (aka boarding arrangement) with the shelter, or did he just dump the animal there thinking that there wouldn't be any problem springing the dog the next day?

Ethical treatment of animals surely must mean something else to these folks...I'd love to hear THEIR defintion, because murdering every single "pitbull" looking dog on the spot, certainly sounds unethical to me.

I used to work there and he left him there because they were so Pit friendly before. He didn't know they had a no adopt policy. He told the lady he'd be back in the morning and that he would pay the adoption fee. I guess she didn't bother to tell the person who euthed him.

Someone mentioned earlier about suing him. It was an honest mistake. Dumb on his part but he had to make a choice between two dogs. The other dog was going to go to the Humane Society in Detriot where she would have been put down for sure. Ryan used to be involved in Pits for the "bad ass" appearance but recently I've gotten him involved in dog shows, pedigrees, and he is REALLY involved in rescue. He's also gotten rid of the spike collars and heavy chains he used to walk his dog on and started teaching his dogs basic obedience. We have both gone to the nursing home my mom works at to do therapy with our Pits. He had really turned around and I think suing him might stifle the learning process a bit. It really hurt having to tell my nieces. They cried for hours. :(
