even though my loved one has been gone for awhile its still hard to talk or type about it. Tiny was a very loved family member, like a son and a brother. he was our very first dog with me and the wife being on our own. when we moved to a different town, after the fact they just declared a ban on the breed the day before we moved there we were scared for the future of him. we tried to keep him hidden until we had the funds to locate to where they were legal within city limits, but too soon i hear a knock at the door. the local police officer said to me " we have a complaint of a vicious dog in your garage". that right there pissed me off. only time he barked is when he heard loud noises, and the neighbors relatives yelled while being drunk. now i could see why he would bark, half the time i had to let him in the house so he couldnt hear it. anyway, the cop asked if he could see what kind of dog it was, and i said ok, i'll be right back. as soon as Tiny came in the room , the guy jumped back and reached for his gun. he told me pitbulls were banned within city limits and if i dont comply and get him out he would take the dog and he will be euthanized. i spent numerous hours on the phone with family members trying to have them come get him but with no luck, they just told me "well its your fault you got a pitbull", main reason i wont talk to my father to this day. the next day we went to the vet and the lady asked me what do i need. i told her he needs to be euthanized for being a pitbull. she gave me this look like "why?". she never asked why he needed it, so obviously word dont get around too fast in that town which is retarded. she came out with the poison and said i needed to muzzle him because it might sting. i told her no, i will do it, my dog is not going to be muzzled. after about 30 minutes of verbal argueing she gave me the needle. i will not go into detail on the rest as its hard to even type this but i will say its the most horrible thing i've ever done in my life. i basically killed my own child. thats probably the worst thing someone can ever do in their life. sorry for the long post but its just what happened to our poor family member because of the breed name he was given. i still cry everytime i see his pictures or even look at a picture on the web that looks like him.

by typing this im not being mean or trying to be mean in anyway. i just wanted to share what happened to our baby and hope that it doesnt ever happen to someone else.

that is a tragedy...the law is a travesty...and the guy who pulled the gun is an ignorant coward in need of an ass whooping. Sorry for you're loss. Hope that didn't come on too strong, but I get a little passionate on the subject, I've had a cop pull a gun on my dog before and tell me to "let her come over here, I've got something for her". Did you consider giving him to a pit bull rescue project?...might have been able to save his life. Again, sorry you had to go through that.

yea i hear you on being strong. i cuss alot and try to keep it calm lol. the closest place to us was about 30 mins away which was a humane society, but they were too full to except him there. they never gave us any numbers or adresses to any other place that might take him. the next closest place to us was around 4 hours away and we didnt have the funds to get him there. i felt it was better that i did what i had to do and make sure someone wouldnt adopt him for the wrong reasons. and being new to the community i wouldnt trust anyone living out of city limits there to take him for the fact he might end up fighting which was my #1 thing to not let him experience. its really just messed up how it turned out. one minute your having a good time and the next your crying your eyes out over a peice of paper (ban). my oldest daughter still asks me "wheres tiny?" , she also has mental problems, and everytime she does i tell her "he's on vacation , but he will be back sometime soon. kills me to lie to her like that but i just cant tell her what happened.

I am sorry for your loss, but few things do not fit here.

1: You obviously have access to a PC. So you did not need to rely on anyone to give you any rescue center's numbers. You could have found a rescue center to place him with simply by getting online.

2: Rescue centers do not adopt dogs out to just anyone. If you knew anything about rescue, you'd have known the adoption process is usually very strict & not just anyone can get a dog.

3: You didn't have the funds for a 4 hour trip? I find this strange. My husband & I pull & show dogs & we often go on 3 hours trips. Eats & all the cost is usually less than $100 & that's in my gas hog truck.

Plus, if you explain your situation, most rescue centers are willing to meet you half way, if not come all the way to your house to pick up a dog in need.

Again, I'm sorry for your loss & I'm sorry about what you had to go through. The the saddest part is that it probably needn't have happened at all. :(

    RIP Tiny

i did leave a few things out which i can see why you may be confused.

at the time all this took place (2006) we didnt have very much money. my wife was the only one with a job at the time and never received her 1st check yet. we only had a few dollars left from when we moved. all we had for communication at the time was a tracfone cell phone. the town we moved to didnt have any public access to the internet nor had a public library to boot. the time the officer came over was in the afternoon the previous day, so our time was short on trying to find a place for him to go.

the vet was kind enough not to charge us for his euathanizing. still didnt make me feel any better about the whole situation. if i could go back and change everything i would , but its already happened.
