RIP to the gamest pup I've ever seen

Our keeper, "Tabitha" died today. She had a short life - she was born by our triple bred Tiger bitch on the afternoon of Oct. 24th. She was one of four pups Baby had. Tabitha was the runt, very small & waif thin, but she always vigorous, struggled to best her bigger siblings & had a fighter's spirit. She did great 24th & 25th, but this morning I woke up & checked on the pups & Tabitha was alone, over to the side. I thought she was dead, but when I grabbed her to lay her to rest, she began to move. Cold & dehydrated, I warmed her, gave her fluids & massaged her to keep her stimulated & encourage circulation. All the vets here say when you have an ailing newborn is to take it home & let it die, so it was up to Tabitha & I to make a go of it. Once warmed, she began to rally, but eventually the death angel started to get the best of her. She died in my hands 4 different times, but came back with a big breath & squirming when I administered CPR. The fifth time death wrestled her down, there was no coming back. This little 2 day old pup fought off the grim reaper all night & for at least an hour this morning. Once she was handled, she always scratched back right into the reaper's face. Sadly however she couldn't make her last scratch. Grim Reaper 1xw - Tabitha 1xGL.

    RIP Tabitha.

Thanks noway. I know she was just a baby puppy, but boy did she ever have a fighter's spirit. I buried her in an extra special spot. I've never seen a pup fight to live like she did. I can only imagine what kind of dog she would have grown up to be had she lived.

Thanks guys. I have 2 little girls left & a little boy, but none show the spunk & fighting spirit Tabitha did. I guess runts have to have that to survive, which is why I always had a soft spot for runts. I've seen several newborns die over the years - it's part of breeding - but I have never seen a newborn pup fight to live like she did. I do hope her littermates will be half the dog she was.

Thanks guys. I came home from running errands this afternoon to find my husband's rabbit died (old age we assume). When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? :(
