Rock's Dog-Fighting Comments Cost Him Pryor Role?

October 22, 2009 : The animal-loving widow of RICHARD PRYOR banned CHRIS ROCK from portraying the late comedy icon on the big screen after he made a joke about dog fighting, according to reports.

The Head of State star was among the frontrunners to land the main role in a new Pryor biopic, but he allegedly lost the part after jokingly defending shamed American football star Michael Vick, who recently served time for running an illegal dog-fighting ring.

During a recent appearance on U.S. TV's The Jay Leno Show, Rock said, 'What the hell did Michael Vick do? Pitbulls ain't (sic) even real dogs! Dogs have never been good to black people!'

The quip offended Pryor's wife Jennifer, who serves as the director of animal rescue group Pryor's Planet, and she made sure Rock's throwaway comments cost him the movie job.

In an open letter to the star, Jennifer fumes, 'For your information, Chris, what Michael Vick did was to torture, drown, electrocute and murder dogs all for fun and for profit! He went to prison for felony animal cruelty! That's what he did!

'These types of comments only encourage abuse and misunderstanding of this breed, as well as actual dog-fighting. Clearly this part of your latest stand-up routine would not make Richard laugh!'

Fellow funnyman Marlon Wayans is reported to have landed the coveted role in Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?, which is expected to hit cinemas in 2011.

Pryor, who founded Pryor's Planet before his death, passed away in 2005 from a cardiac arrest, aged 65.

So now basically, anyone that has anything to say about dogfighting that differs from the law is a bad person. The best guy for the part won't get the job because he said something about Mike Vick...are they serious?

I'm sorry, refresh my memory...Mike Vick killed a few curs, is that correct? Go ahead, now ya'll can badger me with your bullshit because I ask this question! LOL

Yeah they should find someone a little more pc to play the part of the Richard Pryor, the guy that is most famous for his rascist jokes and lighting himself on fire from drinking 151 and smokin base:p:rolleyes:

MrMark: Most are upset about the way he culled his dogs. Everytime I get in a debate out Vick, it comes down to that.

He drowned them and laughed, he electrocuted some and beat some. So, no, he didn't kill a few curs....he tortured them......refreshing enough for you?

You want to cull a cur, that's fine, but there's a humane way to do it and then there's a inhumane way to do it.

Yep..freedom of speech...this is America and I guess some people don't like it when they joke about dogs being tortured....

I hate to turn this into another Vick thread but how do we know he laughed as he killed these dogs? I've just always wondered if he said that or something. I never really researched the trial or anything like that.

    Absolutely amazing.
People get up in arms over Vick! And I mean mad enough to fight.
Outraged at keeping dogs on a chain! Animals are people too!
Furious that someone would even joke about such things

....in a country where these same people wouldn't bat an eyelash at someone visiting the doctors office to have her womb aspirated and fetus dismembered.

I can't even use a dog to track game in this state cause it's cruel.
Get an abortion? Sure! People are ridiculous.
Directed at no one in particular.

BTW, how do you know that he laughed? Just wondering.
Many dogmen drowned dogs as a method of culling, especially pups.
Many states view electricution as a humane way to dispose of people.
Not that I would choose these methods personally.
Now if he was beating animals, that's something else entirely.

I guess the people that realy have a problem with it should be protesting the exacuetion of humans by the judicial system if a man can be electrocuted
    then so can a dog

    RIGHT OR WRONG

It's in the court documents Turner. Do the research. :)

This is something that people are not going to forget anytime soon, if ever. If MV's name gets mentioned with regard to anything, people will not be talking about him with regard to football, they will be talking about him with regard to him torturing dogs.

I have no problem culling an animal or human that is bad. BUT, do it humanely.
