Thanks MP..the vest is correctional kevlar 2 layers it also has a jaw gaurd and leg flaps..they about 220 bucks a peace.

 

Hey major you said ya'll didn't run vests in the heat have you looked in the Australian type or look at some of the ugly dog vests

 

We won't if its crazy hot. But it's hasn't been a big deal. I will look in to the vests though

 

Most of the time they are fine in the heat if I bring water and let them get wet before and after in a near by lake.

 

Just have to be careful if you hunt around much water because that will hinder swimming for some dogs. It was a man here last year sent his dog in an as it crossed a small river the dog couldn't swim straight and drowned. The leg protectors catch alot of water. Here in the bottoms we run into alot of good sized creeks an rivers we have to cross keeping up with the dogs and often them hogs will bay up on a good bank but it usually across from where you're at. Just sumin to think about.

 

you can also put a noodle around the collar for a flotation device.

 

I live in south Florida we don't run in moving water very often. But my female was bit by a water moccasin a few days ago on our own property.

 

i cant get a clear view of the snout, but from i can see it looks like a farm pig x wild boar hybrid.... which a just as prevailant as the wild pigs... you can tell by the snout.... the wild boar have a much longer flatter looking snout, the hybrids are rounder and more pushed in...

 

Are you putting these hogs on a scale?

 

Yea. Normally we do. But the last one we got we couldn't. That's why I said about 500 pounds. That was an educated guess.

 

I wouldn't take this the wrong way, but as a hog hunter, it takes a lot and I mean alot for a woods hog to make 400 lbs much less 500 lbs. Unless you have scaled hundreds of hogs, an educated guess don't amount to much. Most peoples 4-500 lb hogs usually turn out to be 300 lb hogs.

I'd love to see the hog y'all caught cuz anything above 300 is a true trophy especially Barr hogs.

 

No, offense taken. I know how rare it is. And I know that they are only that big because no one has hunted there before so these pigs aren't young at all, now that the word is out about the spot I go, the sizes will drop. The biggest one was a sow she still had decent cutters though. Had to use a bobcat to clean her. My buddy has the head because the dogs go crazy when they see it. I have some pictures but it was so dark out its hard to see any thing. I am buying gopros soon so I will be posting videos.

TY David...She was the runt of the litter .I gave her to the guy in the picture for free.She went to a good home and he spends alot of time with her.So I am pleased with her situation.The whole family loves her and she loves his kids..And she is a good catch dog to go with everything else.

That hog got me in some trouble. Some kid took a picture and was bragging about how he killed it. FWC came to my house everyone involved had to go down to the police station for questioning. It was huge.

 

The farmers around here wouldn't like it too much but send me a breeding pair up here to Ohio also. I have a walker coon hound that I could use to track em and a big Eli/redboy male that tolerates some submissive males and females I could use as my catch dog. Sounds like a lot of fun and its free meat. Does anybody ever feed pork to their dogs. It'd probably have to be cooked or frozen for a while if fed raw?
