I personally own a half pit bull half boxer, and it is the nicest dog ever! She is not aggresive at all, and has never shown a sign of bitterness. I personally think that BSL Laws are riddiculous!! I have done some research on pitbulls, and talked to vets about them. The vet said that he has rarely seen pitbulls turn on people. People just believe everything they hear on tv or the radio, and it needs to stop. A lot of headlines say that the person only pet the pit and it turned. I really dont believe a dog (who is sane) would bite a person for petting them, and if they did they would have clearly let some kind of warning (growl) and if the kid/adult still went to pet the animal i believe that is there fault. All pits are not mean, and people really need to realize that. Any breed that you have can turn on you in a snap, and i really feel that pits are good dogs. When you do come across a mean pit bull, its not the dogs fault but the owners fault. If an owner trains the dog to be mean, then of course its going to be mean. I am just getting very upset by these riddiculous laws and i think they need to stop!!!!!

Learn to spell and realize that people only complain about "bad" animals in general. I have neighbors that "train" their dog to be mean on purpose. I know they'd be the first to sue if a dog bit them... so go figure... these same people don't treat their kids any better! There should be laws against "people" like that.... then kids and animals would live better.

Okay, I may not be the smartest person in the world, nor a dog expert by any means, but I have a few things I'd like to say. I own a pit bull, who happens to be the best pet anyone could ask for. He is loving, smart, and full of energy, and has never once shown agression towards anything or anyone. This includes young children, elderly people, other dogs including other pits, or cats. Now, why is it my dog is so well behaved, in spite of the reputation pit bulls have? Because im a responsible person, who raised my dog right. If left in the hands of the people I got him from, Chico could very well be one of these "vicious" pits thats involved in dog fighting. He would probably be dead. Pit bulls arent the ones who should be blamed for their violent behavior, its the people that raise them. I have seen first hand how these people treat their animals, and its horrible. I just can't fathom why someone would be so cruel to a dog, only to see it fight, and possibly be killed. My dog isnt the only good natured pit out there, so all the owners of all the NICE pit bull terriers in the world, stand up for the breed. And all you politicians and elected officials, dont look at the dog, or the breed as the problem. Look at the people who raise them!!

wow. that is absolutely shocking. i knew of a few places where bsl was in effect, but i can't believe the list is that long. what the hell were some of these cities thinking? there are a few strange breeds listed in there. sharpeis? i mean, come on-i've heard they're a bit tempermental, but to BAN them? it's like the city council drew names out of a hat. we have to stop this madness!

Hell yea, that is so stupid. even american bulldogs are banned cuz theyre considered "pitbull like" . They might as well put all dogs on the damn BSL list because it sure aint going to solve any problems. When are they going to get it thru their thick skull that its the owner and not the breed of the dog thats the problem

I have to disagree with the guest. In general you are right that sane dogs won't bite a person for just petting them. But I was bit in the face by a pit bull when I was younger, all I did was pet the dog on his head. I had 9 stitches in the left side of my face. Another time I was attacked by 2 chows and I was playing with my friend for a while, then out of nowhere, they attacked....

  12. I Just Got An Assignment To Mountain Home, Idaho. According To This Post, There Are Two Cities With Bsl. One Is 100 Miles Away, And The Other Is 545 Miles Away. Im Kinda Concerned About The One That Is 100 Miles Away....a Little Two Close For My Comfort.

I own an American Staffordshire Terrier. It is the most loving, friendly dog I could have asked for. My mother's tiny little dogs are more aggressive towards humans than this dog. Mickie is also very friendly towards other dogs due to dilegent socialization training. My husband is military so we move a lot, and have no choice as to where we move. It is devastating to my family (which includes a 2 yr old) to think we could move somewhere that said our wonderful family pet was dangerous or vicious and we would have to get rid of him. We are responsible pet owners. Why should we have to be punished because of a few irresponsible, cruel pet owners? The government should take a stronger stance on animal cruelty and irresponsible ownership, and quit tring to tell American citizens what kind of dog they can even own. My husband fights for our freedom, and I would like to think that the choice of dog is part of that freedom. I have heard of all kinds of atrocious acts committed by a dictator of some third world countries, but I have never heard that they went so far as to tell them what type of dog they can or can not own. Reading through the list I came across a ban in Texas.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't there a state law in Texas that bans any form of breed specific legislation for any animal?

We had a STATE law in California against breed banning also. It fell in the wake of the hysteria about the woman who left her son home alone with two pits and came home to find him dead.

i think anyone who could see these wonderful dogs as heartless murders are the ones that need to be put in there place and forced to live like they want my pet to live and never have kids of there own. me and my husband have owned over 18 rotties and over 8 pits before due to resuce work. we got out of rescue work but we still own 2 pit bulls right now that live in the house with us and our 2 kids. they are well behaved and have never bittin or snaped at any one before. they are very lovable and well mannered dogs, my landlord has no problem with our dogs. we have been bitted by other breeds including dauchunds, cooker spaniels, and my husband almost had his eyes taken out by a Chihuahua, but never has a bully offered to bit us. it not the dog but the owner of the dog that needs to be punished -dogs are like kids you have to raise them right and teach them todo the right things. don't punish our loving pets and us over irresponsible people. i think everyone should be able to own any kind of dog that suites them. please everyone banned together to stop the goverment from destroying our loving pets.

I am a Dog Lover by nature my husband and I own 2 pure bred Pitt bulls, a Pitt-Lab mix, and A Rott-shepard mix. I grew up owning the typical family dogs like labs and retrievers, and I never knew the true meaning of dog loyalty and affection until I owned the breeds I own now. My dogs love people and kids and even other animals it just kills me to see these dogs getting a bad reputation because of a few careless dog owners. I do not agree with specific breed dog bans it is unfair the the dogs of those breeds that are good dogs I Do how ever believe that there aren't bad dogs only bad owners who create mean dogs. In the Town where I live they tried to pass a Pittbull ban Fortunately it did not pass. They did pass an aggressive Dog ban. Now that I can understand and I don't have a problem with. Because it doesn't single out just one or two breeds it just means that any dog that has been deemed vicious (meaning that , that dog has attacked a person or another animal without provocation). I think that All these cities and Counties that have the specific breed bans should step back and look at the message they are sending and reconsider the laws they have passed and think about revising them to aggressive Dog Bans.
