On the day after Christmas, we said good-bye to a beautiful dog and loving member of our family. Although she had done so much and had come so far in her life, ultimately her bad breeding (& unknown breeding) was the cause for her short life.

Sukari CGC,TT, & therapy dog (approx. 4 years old)

R.I.P. to a canine who was lucky to have found you...it was you and your family who offered it the best possible life it could have had anywhere..... having had considered the breeding situation you were referring to(???)...she was really in the best place with you and now is even in a better place where nothing else matters.

I would normally say "Poor dog," but I just can't bring myself to do it. After all, it doesn't look like she lacked for anything, and she probably had a blast living with you. Poor Mia. RIP, pup.

    Thanks everyone.

Mister, I brought Sukari and her brother, Dakota, home with me after they were confiscated in a drug raid in N.O. & were in extremely poor condition (hooks, rounds, coccidia and parvo...all together). After they finished treatment, I guessed them to be approx. 6-7 months of age.

Both dogs were deaf which is why I offered them a chance. Sadly, Dakota turned out to be extremely reactive (jumpy, skittish) & often reacted with teeth first. We had to make the decision to euthanize him before he was even a year old. Sukari was exactly the opposite. She was the calmest and non-reactive deaf dog I've ever owned & worked with. She was an absolute dream dog that adored people (although she wasn't too fond of other dogs :) ). However, since this late summer, her entire personality began to change. It was hard to put a finger on at first, but we watched her go from her happy-go-lucky people loving personality to becoming almost aggressive to anyone but my family when in her crate. She began to do a lot of barking & growling at the neighbors through the fence. Then the last straw happened: when putting her out in the backyard, she was headed through the kitchen when she saw Cole. She immediately stopped and started growling at him, teeth bared and hackles raised. I've never had a dog act like that in my home before. I made the mistake of procrastinating what I knew would have to be and in that time, she saw Cole again and began barking ferociously at him. The time had come. :(

Her genetics IMO killed her. As far as I know, she was the only pup out of the litter that was not euthanized early due to aggression issues whether it be FA or HA. She was a dog with several musculoskeletal faults including really crappy hips that then created horrible knee problems which resulted in her having both ACLS be replaced. And she was deaf.

But she had a little over 3 years with us and in those 3 years she did a lot of good for the 'pit bull' breeds. She was one of my dogs most requested to "come out and play" by the kids on my street. And that is what I wish to remember her for.

Sorry to be reading this Mia but I know you did the best thing for her. She went with her dignity before something awful happened. I understand this situation all too well, as you know we lost both Athena (GSD) and Natas (APBT) last year- Athena was only 2 1/2 and it was certainly bad breeding which killed her. We did all we could but the demons in her head were too much...:(

That's a sad story. But she had 3 years of good dog life!!
If more people were that proffesional with dogs we had less dog attacts.
You did wright thing. R.I.P Sukari

Sukari had it made after you took her in. I commend you on putting so much of yourself into an animal that was already a statistic. I hope some of these "guests" that are always online will take note of this thread.

THanks for reminding us all of how crucial the owners responsibility is in situations like this.

Most incidents of housepets biting people/family members are preventable.
Thankfully you did the right thing.

See that backs up my point exactly, she would have had none of that and had no chance without you to experiance any life at all. Basically your own heart and emotions and desire to give her a good life kept her sane and alive for as long as it did. I think your right... her mind body and genetics began to fail her and it was time ...but for as far as she had come in life I believe reflects your professionalism and skill and love for these dogs ...the love you have even for the rejects...lmao... and no offense....... because some people...actually most ...would not be able to accomplish a fraction of that with the same dog. Really if you look at the facts and percentages the dog experianced more life than she was dealt in her cards.... and nobody can feel bad for that ...considering she beat the house with an a Ace and a 2 and out lived her own hour glass to begin with ...shows a lot about you.
