Im not saying the point isn't valid Im saying its worth perserving and if your the kind who works whatever you have, then they're gonna get work, and if it can't work it won't work.. (that of course may be why honest working colby dogs are few and far between) .. its as valuable as OFRN strains of purity in all right. One mans bulldog was another mans bull terrier right off the same stock ;) one mans fight crazy is another mans sound game .. by all rights the proof is in the pudding its just some flavors are worth savoring especially when nothing like that will ever be around again.. thats the what Im getting at.
  2. I personally no a person wo has a great lookin male, and he wont mate with him to nothin at all. Its something special aout this loodline. I think that the coly's new what they were doin and I personaly would like to thank all the forefathers and oldtimers, dogmen and youngsters for the great knowlege that they have in feeding and rasing dogs is exciting to me. Let the line live on forever good or not. Still nice looking dogs rite.

The apbt is a working breed that was created to work. The objected when breeding working dogs is to breed superior athletes NOT to preserve any particular bloodline especially one that is inferior. at some point all bloodlines are crossed in order to improve the quality of the dogs. What is the point in keeping something pure if its not getting the job done? That's the same reason why those ofrn dogs aren't worth a quarter, people get caught up in old stories about dogs 40, 50 and 60 years ago and ignore the fact that those dogs are dead and gone. Why chase dead dogs who made history when you can make history with dogs today?

Everyone loves their own flavor. That is our right. What fun would it be if all dogs looked and acted just alike?
What about a Colby with some of all those dogs you mentioned blended in?

I just love what I know - Cause I dont know much about TG dogs. That dont mean that I would not feed one. Know what I mean?
  5. mccoypitbulls

That pedigree of the Colby dog - I own one off that same breeding.

its the dog men dream. Im not sure if I told you but alot of my stock was given to me by dogmen. Thats right Real bonafide dogme. would call me up say hey man I got this so and so he is nuts I cant handle him he wont listen he kills everything in the yard blablabla, my remark most of the time if I like how he is bred is well he sounds like a good pup to me bring him by let me look at him. alot of my dogs came to me that way I have allways wanted crazy hot stay till it done type dogs that to me is what a game dog is that is my view on what i like to have I love my dogs every one of them nut up like crazy still even the old ones. I like my dogs to act that way. Now when you get a pup from my years of breeding dogs together like that you will most likely end up with a crazy acting pup. Now alot of the Bonafide dog men dont like crazy dogs and dont like to breed them as much. ( hell I dont blame them I love it when a good stud will just have it and do his job. No not my shit they fight it out so i have to AI every breeding. so when your big breeders want to breed pups all the time, they most allway take the easy way. and thats a fact if you have two Ch male dogs one is a basterd to breed and one will talk that bitch to stand and both males threw the same witch one would you breed.( see I would breed the killer I like them) but most breeders breed the easy way and after 50 years of that is shows.

And like the guy said The colby dogs are in 90% of the dogs out there how can you knock them. and another thing mr Colby had picked up more dog shit in his 90 years with dogs than ANY ONE here!! I will bet my farm on that!!!! and I just dont see how you cant have but the deepest respect for his strain. and I am not saying Go out and get colby dogs I dont feed any but I would dang sure feed one if I had a good one. and if they are not what you want just cross them its plane as day.
  8. mccoypitbulls

It all boils down to a formula - people of those days focused on certain dogs and built lines off them. To say one thing or another about this line or that is bias and nieve(sp). You can say this and that, but what does that all boil down to?
  9. Dream Pits

    Dream Pits CH Dog

J respect isn't the issue, we all known where our dogs came from but its not what's 5, 10 or 15 generations back but what's right there up close that makes the dog what it is. The reality is. Ur dog gets 50% of its genetic make up from daddy and the other 50% from mom and 0% from the Colby dogs 10 generations back. The colby dogs of today aren't programmed to be box dogs nor are they programmed to produced them.

I feel you bro....... 4 generations are the best guide to the shit that will be in a litter of up to 10 pups! Times are tough and chain spot aint cheap. Some of best dogs were bred and kept in tough times. Colby dogs seem to get a free pass as their paper will get john doe to keep the cur as a pet. Most honest dogmen cant afford to keep all their litters from proven stock but colby pups=$$$$$$$$$$$

i always wanted to breed into a colby dog and still do a new friend of mine has a male wish it was a female got plans for my 2 adult females ,,,, find me at a show in my back yard ' THE MIDWEST' and we can talk then i think we can change this thread up in 1 genoration

Lou only had 2-3 litters a year. Only charged $750 for a pup, and had a waiting list.
what I find amusing is the lengths people will go to, to down the line. Don't like em? Don't feed em. Problem solved, drama free. It really is silly

No.. respect is kinda the issue or rather preservation.. if its the oldest it should be in the right hands regardless. They needed a particular formula indeed heinzl had it down better than colby on his own stock so why couldn't another dog man do that today? I respect what your saying I just think your missing something genetically speaking.

We are living in the instant gratificated disposable lifestyle thats why.. No one honors where we come from on any level and guys and ladies who honor these old traditional bulldogs ( Here I mean more than Colby I mean the traditional dog of the []) are no different. You have the hard fast give it to me now then you have the ones who preserve history. You have those who have good morals as common sense then you have those who throw everything away with the worse possible ethics. All forms of the spectrum have these types of dogs. No excuses or back handed comments of the colby petering out it really is about preservation. All you agree that the game dog must be preserved, why not preserve the father to all bulldog and bull and terrier species and kickdowns as you preserve the game gene. Maybe because most breeders are dogmen first breeders 2nd. (coming from old stratton turquoise book) Breeders by nature preserve the action guy only cares about winners and less on pedigree. No dog is without pedigree its just not written, it is what made it all 256 ancestors cause without one, the whole formula is off.

Wasn't there something recently said about pure jocko being hard rough curs, sounds familiar about other strains from Tudors Niggers. If thats the case why are people usin it? Whats the use in preserving cur? What? Chavis is some of my all time favorite stuff but I can accept that hell I can see it.

Everywhere you see a pure redboy dog its colby blood no matter the name you put on it. Hunter Red ROM (red rom red rom hahaha) is a pure colby dog, no not bred by colby but all his building blocks are pure colby you could erase the name and write Pure Colby in almost every slot. of course a dog is the immediate result of the first 4gen but thats not telling you anything historically how to preserve that blood or trait. "Why do people get Indian rights down to 1/64?? cause DNA matters to the last drop." Each dog in the back for being absolutely pure colby means everything because all your lookin at is the first 4 and have forgotten that the entire make up was breeding pure colby dogs that were still [] worthy as so many so put it. A pure block of colby blood (DNA) is a pure block of Colby, deny it but your only lying to yourself. I know all about how to create the dog not to shabby with genetics, I will admit I have lil to no experience with four corners. Two different aspects but as stratton said they need each other.

Redboy is unique if its pure and in the right hands, IMO as it can be OFRN or it can be pure Colby or it can be Redboy a name and line all of his own.

I kinda see something worth preserving I think people got a hard on for colby blood a long time ago and forgot where they came from, just like most Americans have today in the big scheme of life. Wish traditional dogmen would do more to preserve the colby dog in as near to real fashion as possible just so the entire batch didn't go to slop. Just me.. I guess

I know. In reality colbys do only have 2-3 litters a year even though they could sell a litter a month if they wanted. Dogs are a hobby, not a business. There are a thousand times more jeep/ rb/ mayday dogs out there than colby dogs. So percentages honestly would be quite similar.

there is no formula its all about testing. do you know why hh's dogs were better than the ones why the colbys yard? it had nothing to do with any secret formula.
And when he said colby dogs equal money i dont think he was talking about the colbys themselves. He was talking about others selling "colby" dogs

The formulas or blocks are no mysterious lore. All one should be able to do is read, comprehend, than study.
Is this not the purpose of a pedigree. To keep record of what came from what?

Colby = money----- lol... They are worth far more than dollars my friend.
Mine was given to me from a top notch fella with kick ass dogs and a great Family. He has became my best dog friend and I am lucky to have met him. Drove bout half way cross the country for him, but thats what you have to do when you get the chance.....jump and dont be scuuuuuurd.
Someone willing to give a dog a propper home is worth far more than a buck and that is how me and my folks roll.
    Just sayin
