To breed or not to breed

Discussion in 'Health & Nutrition' started by AmiistadLake, Mar 15, 2022.

  1. Here's something I haven't seen asked before I have an old bitch that should be in heat. Only problem is she's flagging, and her part is swollen but she doesn't bleed. Anybody ever ran into this before it's her 3rd time doing this.

Yes, I recently made a litter with a case similar to yours, it went wrong, bitch 8 years old, dog 10 years old, heat with little blood, practically no blood, it cost a lot to breed them, the bitch would not let her.
The day of delivery arrived, 3 gave birth naturally, the delivery stopped for about 6 hours, she runs to the vet €1000 caesarean section, she took out 5 more from inside 2 dead 3 alive, of the 3 alive ones died 2 were like rickets the mother rejected them they lasted 4 days.
everything that was going to be easy became difficult, when a caesarean section they also sterilized since they said that the womb was bad, a total of a litter of 9 puppies remained 4, they had to be reinforced with milk, now they are 3 months old they are doing well but it has It cost a lot of effort, not financial but mental, time spent many hours with bottles, my recommendation is DON'T DO IT.

Some have 'silent heats'. Squeeze check the female and see if there is some blood, maybe not heavy but some.

I have an old female now who is the same way but she never bled nor started swelling.

When she was breedable way back when if it was around her time I would squeeze and she would flag. Flagging was her only sign.

Dang that's a old bitch to try and get a litter off. You just may kill that dog. If she ain't produce a worthy bitch to breed to at this point why even try?

  8. I have a good daughter off her the thing is I sold her 3 yrs ago but she didn't get along with the new owner. I've had her here for the past 3 yrs and he hasn't bred her cause of this I just don't know how I would make it right if she were to die without been bred.

8 yrs the max plus no more then 5 litters during het life 11 years is way to old for the bitch it will ruin her. Bred to her daughter instead.

  12. The daughter belongs to me the old bitch belongs to someone else but he hasn't bred her in 4 yrs. How would you make it right give the money back or he had 4 heats he could have bred the bitch? The old bitch was bought by him but she didn't get along with him so she was sent back to me. Whenever she would come in heat he was to breed to her but never did.

She had 4 heats and he could have bred the bitch. Period. It's possible but at that age your chance of losing both the dam and the pups is pretty high. Even if he bred her 4 heats ago she was 8 then. 2 ways I'd personally handle it if it where myself.

    1. Give him his money back if your referring to you took payment to breed this bitch. She's too old at 11.

    or

    2. Offer him a pup in exchange.

Before hitting send I went back and re read this thread. Are you saying you sold this dog to someone 3 years ago but you've had her the whole time? That will change my answer pretty dramatically.

  14. Yes I've had her went and picked her up 2 weeks after I sold her.

Then fuck that dude unless he was paying you the whole time you was caring for the bitch. Unless he was paying you to do so or it was agreed mutually.
