I think it’s excellent if you ask me. I don’t need my dogs being super friendly. They are outside dogs but each of them were raised indoors for lengthy period of time. I like bonding with them.

Well, it seems you know a little about the dog. That’s good. Now it’s time to focus on the traits the dog exhibits that are indicative of what you know about each breed. Regardless of how he’s bred- responsibility is first and foremost. Don’t put yourself in a situation where you and the dog could get in trouble. No dog parks. No off leash training(unless in a fenced area alone) Always be aware of your surroundings. You could have a total powderpuff on your hands or a man eater....or anything in between. It’s your responsibility to facilitate him/her maturing in a safe environment. Eventually, if you like what you see, who cares how he’s bred. I’ve seen total duds out of some of the hottest lines, and fire out of the pound. All you’re doing when obtaining certain lines is increasing likelihood of certain desired behavior. No guarantees. I can tell you this- if a breeder is making a living from his dogs- he’s lost his way. Just my humble opinion. Mike Tyson was a great fighter......doesn’t mean his great great great grand kids will be.....catch my drift??? But it sure does sound cool to have him in your lineage

This World's greatest breed, a pure game bred Apbt wasn't meant to be human aggressive. As a matter of fact , our forefathers who dedicated their lives breeding , showing, culling the Real Bulldog's would certainly Cull, or put down a human aggressive pit dog . I think it's a shame that so many folks dont understand what made our Bulldog's The Best on the planet. 1st "Gameness " this rare trait goes against nature. There are only 2 creatures on God green Earth that have this trait. A Fighting Gamecock, & a Real Apbt. A dog of just about any other breed other than Apbt, if mortally wounded will bite any person that tries to help the dog. I have put down extremely well bred Bulldog's without any hesitation if I saw with my own eyes true human aggression. I dont want that trait in my Bulldog's. I'm not referring to a house dog that shows being protective. A guard dog isnt a "Pitdog." A guard dog is a German shepherd, A Rottweiler. Ect. Educate yourself on what makes Real Bulldog's what they are.

  6. I am new to this group. The reason I joined was I bought a dog from Marty Cross and have been unsuccessful at getting the registration paperwork. I have tried many times and the story keeps changing. Has anyone else purchased a puppy from him? Did you have problems with Marty?

You newbies need to use common sense when buying from peddlers as your at there mercy. The best advice I can give you is to find someone who has honest dogs who doesn’t sell or peddle and befriend them. Learn all you can and maybe you’ll be able to get a good start for a good price or even as a gift. Go pick up the dog crap on there yard for a year and put in the work and see what you reap. This is a dying breed and the old school ways are in the past with the modern crowd who for the most are not anyone you’d want your daughter to date is a sad state of affairs. Most wannabes should never even have this breed other then a best friend as they will do more harm then good if not mentored properly. You real Dogmen have to keep the welfare of the Gamedogs integrity in tact for there preservation. These are like rare gems and should only be put in deserving hands.

I have come to the conclusion of most folks don't care about quality. They don't really care about betterment of the breed. Don't want to be a quality owner. They just want the flavor of the month. These folks won't put in the time to have any understanding. They just want a "apbt" for whatever the reason. It's beyond me because truthfully I don't believe they make that great of pets.

I agree. I think they make awful pets.. Nothing quite like a high strung hard-headed stubborn asshole entertaining itself while your at work by totally disrespecting and destroying your house and belongings. Kept these dogs inside and outside for more of my life than not, I very much prefer them outside. These are typically more dog than the average pet owner really wants to deal with IMO.

I'm not saying they can't make great pets with the right owner but I feel they are just way too high maintenance for the typical everyday pet owner.

Very few people seem to do any research before they jump right on in. Probably why most fail in short order or get swindled by someone when buying their first dogs.

There are a couple of separate issues going on here. One is the fact that newbies are getting crap that is not a real game bred APBT. That is not the issue I am addressing.

I am answering, what if you do get the real deal? Do you have any idea what you are getting into if you want a house pet? First, if you really want a real game bred APBT, a real fighting dog, you probably have issues. I do. There are all sorts of things wrong with me and that is why I love this dog. Certified by multiple mental health care professionals. Why would you love an animal because it will willingly take its death? OK, so that's for starters. AS they say in the South, Boy A'int Right!.

So now you have the combination of crazy and game. Now I love these dogs. For some reason, I find them more affectionate and snuggly, not sure how that works out, but I do.
So how do you keep this breed and you out of trouble? It takes 100% vigilance. No dog park, no walking around the neighborhood or playing fetch where you might run into other 4 legged creatures. You absolutely CANNOT take the chance of doing any of this or you WILL have troubles eventually. And it will ALWAYS be your dogs fault, always. And these dogs require a TON of exercise, at least 1 full hour minimum every day plus some hand walking or being on a SECURE outside tie out.

If you work an 8 hour plus day and leave the dog loose in the house, it will be destroyed. If you crate the dog that long it will go insane. I am getting a new dog because I work part time, 1 hour here, 2 hours there....I can get my dog out and working 3 times a day every day. And again the work must be totally designed to be safe, not easy. Oh, and good luck getting home insurance...and your neighbors will probably hate you. You can't let these dogs loose in the backyard either, although they can be on secure systems for periods of time.

So you have to do this day in day out for more than a decade. And as others have mentioned, these do not make good guard dogs. And real dogmen, IMO, downplay the potential for HA....everyone goes on and on about how a dog has to work with its handler in the pit...but I have seen plenty of dogs that will eat you up.

OK, I have barely scratched the surface here. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Owning these dogs as a pet can be very rewarding, but it takes a MAASSIVE amount of precautions and discipline and you only have to slip up one time...

Wonder how big apple and back street truez handled all those dogs in crates in apartments complex basements without all this gold advice..... there's plenty of 1,2,3+ time winners who sit in crates 12 hours a day just fine. Also ones who run the house while the owners are away. There are PLENTY of urban dogmen and breeders who don't follow a single piece of that advice who do way better than lots of folks. The dogs are individuals with individual personalities. You can't blanket statement these animals at all.

Reading comprehension...Did you even read my first sentence? You missed he part about where I was referring ton people thinking about getting into these dogs, my post was meant for the new owner.

I can tell you exactly how big Apple handled things having been on their yard. Most weren't indoor even for most of the winter. Gary and John may have brought them in if it got too cold. Haunch got more house time than most. As dogs get older they can handle more crate time. For an 8 hour work day you have commute and lunch so yeah it turns into 10 plus hours. Too much for a very young dog, an older dog yes.

And yes it depends on the dog. I had one that just went absolutely nuts doing 10 plus hours, another was OK. I can make a blanket statement that most new pet type owners are getting in over their head. Some are serious, learn and adapt, some never learn. It is irresponsible not to warn potential owners about what hey are getting into.

You're a new pet owner Bubba. You have little to no experience with these dogs. You need to do a lot more listening and a lot less talking. "Hard to hear when your gums are bumping".

And wasn't Ralph big apple? That's who the boys I know ow went into when they picked up against demon. Not a john or Gary....

I have never had a yard but I have bred proven dogs to grand champions, owned dogs off 4 time winners (Ch Crazy legs) bred out the ass and owned 4 dogs from birth/8 weeks to their deaths 8-10 years later. I got my first dog 25 years ago and am picking up a pup off a 2 time winner in 2 weeks. Had plenty of "Yard Accidents."

I don't claim to be an experienced dogman with 30 dogs, but I do have a lot off experience owning these dogs in urban environments. I have also read everything and studied everything I can get my hands on. I think I am pretty well qualified to give advice to the new owner. That advice is to take ownership of these dogs very seriously. If you disagree and think that new owners should not be serious, then you are just plain wrong.

I most certainly soak up every word said by people like Slim and AKG. I don't listen much to you because you are uncivilized, ill mannered, and also a coward. I was really hoping to not have to state these facts about you, but you just can't seem to act in a resectable manner. You give these dogs a bad name.

Yet I get respect and everyone who's dick u suck gets along with/respects me.... I could really give a fuck less what some green horn WITH NO EXPERIENCE thinks about me.

You're issue with me goes back to when you ran your cock washer. It wasn't me it was you. You're a pussy. A little ego maniac who's claim to fame was breeding to a dog anyone with the cash could have and peddling off all the puppies but 1. If anyone gives these dogs a bad name it's the faggot who bred shit dogs he knew nothing about then sold them to anyone with the bread.

Also, I bred to Haunch who, I believe, was before demons time. But Haunch was a Big Apple dog at that time, owned half and half by Gary and John....and this was before his first go so we are talking about nearly 25 years ago. That is all I claim to know. I don't know what happened with them after that. Back then Gary was big on Crash and Hollingsworth Bull. And he was a gentleman and a scholar, how a dog man should be.

You have no idea about dogmen. They've been pimps, hustlers, murderers, and worse since the breed came into existence. This isn't a fairy-tale. Bert Sorrell called a dude I know a n****r to his face, and this forum is chock full of Iron Mike being a complete cunt to everyone. You can't even tell the truth about them lol. If you want respect and to be treated well check that fragile feminine ego of yours and you may get some. But running your cock sucker is going to get you where it has with a number of us.
