What're some of the biggest mistakes you've made with these dogs?

  1. Yeah, he offered first. It worked out it wasn't awkward or unfair. Even though I picked that big male to keep as a house dog, he was curious to see what he would do after his parents turned out for him. We got together one Sunday took my house dog to one of his big time buddy's cribs, and man , lol he showed out. That's when the asking began. That dog was 75% of the blood he spent his life culling and showing and 25% of what he uses for other attributes. So he deserved to have that dog and I deserved the money , that was his decision, I learned a lot from him over the years and til this day still learning. lol so is he.

If you read all the posts you will realize the biggest mistake one can make is TRUSTING people that you truly dont know.

In all of my dealings, my biggest mistakes have been with people. I keep my dealings with people on a business level now, even family. It seems like the more you try and "help" someone, the less they try and help themselves, and the less reliable they become.

    Great post, TDK!

  12. Trusting people...definitely...not having cameras to watch my yard/dogs. My neighbors poisoned my dog and I wish I had proof that it was them. Oh yeah...when we first got my uncle's dog (when we first started out), we had no idea what we were doing and what we were getting into. He'd asked us to breed her before he passed. We didn't in time, but anyway, we put her in a big yard kennel to breed with this other dog. Yeah...bad idea. At least for the other dog anyway! Glad we didn't get pups out of that. Lol. Learned alot that day....

My biggest mistake was actually owning these dogs before I knew how and knew what goes in to raising them properly (chains, pups, overall health, etc...). Looking at a pedigree when I should have took my butt to the yard and asked questions. I can say I had to learn there is plenty of work that goes in before they start school or even hit the chain.
Second biggest mistake was giving away the best litter I have owned to date. Sold 1 for 100 bucks gave 3 away and kept 2, and that is still the best all around litter I have seen to date.
Third biggest mistake is not trusting myself enough to shape my big boi dog and let some dude my buddy knew do it and never seen him again.

  16. I have another! I'd kept a pup from our family line and ended up in a situation where we couldn't find a place after Hurricane Ike...so I gave the pup to a "friend" with a verbal contract. No breeding to "bullies" and no breeding without my consent. Also, I was able to breed to her once if I chose to and get a pup if she chose not to spay her. WELL, instead she bred her at least 4 times by the time she was four...to bullies...and sold them for $250 as "red nose gator mouth with champion American bloodline"...omg...never again!

Made a few mistakes over the years. Mainly not securing myself financially or prepairing for surprises. Like another mentioned cameras would of been nice. IMO the best bred dog I've owned was poisoned also.

BUT BY FAR my biggest mistake was GETTING OUT OF THE DOGS! IT'S NOT LIKE RIDING A BIKE. I took time away from these dogs and in that 4-5yrs I've forgotten more than I ever learned. Luckily some of the relationships I built are still going strong and I have Good associates. The only thing that beats GAMENESS is death, KEEP SCRATCHING! MUDVILLE

I'd have to say the single biggest mistake I've ever made was trusting people. More than just a few people who are into these dogs are some of the most dishonest, biggest pieces of shit to walk the earth. Other than that, I'd have to say farming dogs out and doing breedings with others for pups when I wasn't the one whelping the litter. Don't do any of that shit these days thanks to a few people not doing the right thing, always trying to get over on somebody and not being about their word. Last would be having a kennel partner ( for me anyways and what I experienced with one ). Won't do that ever again either. I've learned many hard lessons while being involved with these dogs but these are a few of the worst of them.
