William's Ch.Paladin and...

As someone who's interessted in history ( not only in dog's history but in human history as well) I'd like to share another story with yours about a long gone dog from the past.
But remember Dogfighting is illegal and if you don't want to go to jail '' don't fight dogs'' period.
But for a owner I guess it's interessting and a kind of your duty to know the ( sometimes grueling ) backstory's behind this great breed of often misunderstood dogs.
The last not seldom due the stupid actions of some inresponsible uneducated owners who don't known anything about their dogs history and their capability to create havoc in the wrong hands.
If you are aware that your dog is a decedant of an fighting breed I guess you'll behave as an responsible owner who don't want to end up with his raided dogs on the frontcover of the newspapers.
Educate yourself before you handle, keep them on a leash and wear an breaking stick try hard to be an example of an responsible owner.
All this kind of publications from the past are meaned to create a better understanding of the breed and to avoid any kind of trouble with these dogs towards society and the law & not to glorify dogfighting.
In the meantime I'm ofline for a while due to other obligations.

williams' ch "paladin

The late Barney Fife and his brother, Matt, went traveling through North Carolina to visit Mrs. Loposay and then go to the Fork Farm, to see Mr. Grady Cummings. Upon arrival to Mrs. Loposay's, they were able to see the great producer Buster, who made an attempt to bite both of them.

From there they drove to Red Springs, to the home of G. Cummings, who had a yard of Eli bred dogs. Grady was a talkative and personable individual, who would recite the pedigrees of each dog on his yard as he passed them. Grady never officially matched a dog. He would purchase match dogs and breed them to his stock. His claim for not matching his dogs was that if they came from a line of match dogs, then they should be able to produce match dogs themselves. But, to his credit, he did put some of his dogs in capable hands to be matched. While Barney Fife and Matt was there, they had the fortune of seeing a short roll involving a red male named Eli, III.

Some notable dogs from Cummings yard were Ch. Tom (who produced the great Saloon dog, who in turn produced the double Gr. Ch. Tornado), Annie Oakley (out of Mosely's Smeller), Dear Abbey (out of Eli, Jr. and Clemmon's Sandy), Red Fox, Dutch Boy and Young Dutch Boy to name a few.

The three then traveled to Jim Williams' home to see the two new acquisitions just purchased from Maurice Carver. They were two yearlings, one red and the other black. The black was named Paladin.

Paladin was rolled, during his schooling, in a field of tall grass and was separated from his opponent. He was then walked 50 yards away to see if he would scratch. When released he mowed the grass down, streaking towards his opponent, proving his desire to continue.

Paladin was sired by Hyde's Satchmo Bully out of Rorex' Black Lady. This is blood closely related to Gr. Ch. Art and Crenshaw's Ch. Hurt, who were both out of Java, a daughter of Black Lady. Black Lady went back to the blood of Ed. Crenshaw's Reno, which accounted for his black color and finishing instinct.

Paladin who his first match in close to two hours. The length of time was mainly due to Paladin staying in hold on a down dog, making a handle impossible. Paladin's second match was into Big Boy, who gave a good account for himself in a losing effort against Ch. Rascal. Big Boy was an uncle to Gr. Ch. Zebo, from a line of dogs noted for their ability. The dogs were released on a freezing morning with Paladin doing the driving, while Big Boy rode the head in defense. However, Paladin was applying too much pressure and was soon overwhelming Big Boy. Handles became difficult, since Paladin very rarely came out of hold. By :48 a handle was made and Big Boy declined to scratch. Paladin went on to win his championship with a win over his cousin, also from the yard of Carver. After a tough 30 minutes, Paladin was in control and Maurice told the handler to pick up the other dog and concede the match.

Paladin's ability to produce can be found in dogs like Quincy, Ch. Wild Thing, Hanna, Monster Man, Ch. Tyrone, Ch. Trackdown, Ch. Stephano, Gr. Ch. Cheif, and many other winners.

Seem to remember reading somewhere CH Paladin was the true sire of Gaines Fargo, maybe just another opinion on a pedigree or twist to an old story, but it caught my attention since I was a big fan of Gaines dogs and Kingfish x Eli crosses in particular.

 

It seems like a lot of the gaines dogs had paladin blood you're not the only person I've heard say this. The way stuff was back then we will probably never know I guess you'll have to look at traits heavy back then to make a judgment.

 

Sometimes I wondered over side-by-side comparison regarding the Adams and Gaines dogs? They both bred Kingfish crosses, just curious over similarities or differences in terms of their styles and traits?

 

Yeah I'd like to know that as well..

 

I never knew until recently that TG had paladin on his yard when he was 9yrs old. I asked him why didn't he make any breeding to him,and he said he was sterile by the time he got him. Idk though I feel like he may have some paladin somewhere in his blood. TG is A very smart man and knows how to make things happen.

 

TG is a very a smart man! I think he'd get blood out of a stone, dung out a rocking horse and most likely pups out a sterile dog.. I watched some of his videos and his knowledge and affection for Boudreaux and Carver's dogs is undeniable.. His episode 8 video recently caught my attention, specifically @ 12.30 where he mentioned 'Corn's Susie'
Anyone familiar with the Reid's Skipper (Kingfish) crosses in UK will be aware of Reid's Texas Minnie, although maybe not aware Texas Minnie's grandsire [Corn's Toro] and Garner's Negra Tomasa's Great Grandam [Corn's Susie] were litter mates.

I believe the Skipper x Texas Minnie crosses were the best in UK during the 1980's and through dogs like Scotsman's CH Max, Nuttall's Black Max 2xw, Scar Kennels CH Sheena Black and Kelly's Sid they're the reason Reid dogs in the north east were different from anywhere else in UK.

 

That's why I said it was no way paladin was on his yard just to be there. I sure would like some of that blood in its purest from only in American kennels and a select few of his comrades may be the only ones in the world who have it now. I know a guy named Mr McGee out of the Sandhills of North Carolina who has it as well but he doesn't let any go to the public.

 

I know a guy in the north east who was close with Kemmer, Aries Kennel and other good kennels, told me a long time time ago he was chasing Paladin blood.. I always listened to him and he always showed up with good dogs.

Slim12 the only dogs that folks even mention from them dogs is Tyrone & monster man who was up the road from me. can't bring up any littermates of note and really can't talk about well known offspring because they weren't that many. With monster man the only dogs folks even remember was from the candy breeding who produced a few ch. I literally heard bak talking about he was really a bolio man.
