    I would have to disagree.

    1) Never use an O-ring on the axle end of a chain set up, use the chain itself. I will explain.

You should buy grade 43-70 chain for starters 1/4" will do. and buy 3/8" cold-shuts to make your connections. At the axle end make a loop with the chain around the axle and tie it together with the cold-shut. Then COMPLETELY BURY YOUR AXLE so there is no way your dog can get tangled!!

It is important to never use a O-ring at the axle end because this is your weakest link, the rings wear out as shown in the picture above!!

    2) At the dog end you will need cold-shuts, a heavy duty swivel, two collar-rings and two-collars(one 2" collar, one 1 1/2 collar) The chances of your dog breaking two collars is slim to none and with bulldogs it is good to have a back up.

You can buy heavy duty collar rings and all of your hardware from stillwater kennel supply. His are the best you will only need one, if you choose the kind like Marty has then I would use two just to be safe.

    3) Purchase the Pit Bull Bible by California Jack...ASAP. Everything you will ever need to know is in this book.

I will post a picture of my set up so you can get an idea.

It is one book. It may be sorta like Jacks Little Black Book (the first half) pluse a book focused on the sporting/working dog. I'll soon find out, im ordering mine TOMORROW:D
THE BIBLE is one book but is also comprised of many "books".

i wholeheartedly DISagree on the whole chaining "changing" a dog. doesnt matter if its a crate, kennle or chain-if you dont interact w/ the dog, then it will suffer. chaining in and of itself, is NOT the reason dogs change.
i personally use all 3 methods...

***i have found these are actually TOO long at 60 feet. the problem is its easy for the dogs to get too much excercise, as they can free run. the problem is they can drop weight quickly if not carefully watched. also - you NEED a top unless you have old dogs (like i used too) once i got some youthful blood, it reminded me just how athletic the youngsters are- i have one dog who at the age of 5 months could climb the 6ft tall sections, now at 1 year old she can jump OVER a 6 ft fence****

Wouldnt burying the axle make it harder to check for wear and tear? With rust at the base where the chain goes in the ground? Never tried burying them myself but that's my concern

I have a question, I just converted my boy from a tie out to a chain, I have him where his house is up on the deck and so the chain rubs the steps any thoughts on what kind of metal I can put down on the steps to prevent it from ripping them up?
Here are some shots of what I am talking about...not ment for showing this but yea it kinda does.
this second one is Goren in his house, the steps are to the right of his house you cant really see them the 1st pic shows them much better
    [IMG]
and here is just a shot of Goren with the chain and such on, wanted to show you how large a chain I'm using...could not find a A grade 70 1/4" so had to use what I could find
    [IMG]
hope the pictures show what I'm meaning and my explanation, please help me out lol I don't want to have him not able to go up on the deck or have it chewed up.

ooo and because on another forum someone complained about the chicken wire, it is just so he cannot go under the deck and mainly so he does not try to stick his head in between the bracing things...the actual fence to keep other dogs out is a 5' high fence you can kinda see the edge of in that 1st shot...
