I would like to take this opp to introduce myself. Hello! Ok there it is. Names Ron, wifes name is Nancy. I'm a paramedic by trade and we currently own 2 pitbulls. Truthfully I never thought I would ever own a pitbull. I always thought they were to hyper for my tastes. When I used to live in wisconsin I used to breed German Rotts. I thought the Rotts were the dogs to have...thats until I brought home our first Pit. Again I was a little nervous but my wife fell in love with her and if I was gonna get another hot rod I'd better give in. I'm glad I did. At first she was very annoying to say the least. Followed me around like my shadow. Drove me nuts but she was the smartest dog I had ever seen! Very athletic! Fast and strength to spare! She was like...and still is...like a little child. She has to sleep in our bed, under the covers and with a pillow. One of the biggest lovers I have ever seen. So I figured I would buy a book on pits to educate myself on the breed. I know. I know. I should have done that first. After researching the breed I had a whole different outlook on the breed. So we went and picked up our second one. At 12 weeks she was completly pottied trained! This one seems to be smarter than the first! Everytime I turn around these dogs impress me more and more. I doubt I would ever have another breed. Last year the county tried to pass an agressive dog act which would make owners of listed breeds...pits were on the top of the list...register their dog as an agressive dog. Even though they never bit anyone. And have to pay a 15$ for a yearly permit. BULLSHIT! Rotts, Dobes, Akitas and pits were the only ones on the list. They even went as far as stating ....any other dog that is deemed intimidating. Thats any dog! I gathered research and presented it to the board / lawers. I shown them that poodles and cocker span lead the nation in the number of bites. Labs lead my county as well as our neighboring county. One of the people on the board owns a lab. They didn't like that! I instructed them that they must also include German Shep as well as Belgim Malanwas....The police use these dogs....WHY? Cuz they are fast, strong and aggressive....lets not forget intimidating. I personnally do not like those little ankle bitters or Irish Setters...I was bit by them as a child. So they would have to be on the list as well. By the time I was done they would have every breed of dog known to man and that they would look like asses! I also told them that crime is rising across the county and that the only way I would ever get rid of my dog is if they have an officer parked in my driveway 24/7 to deter criminals like my dogs do. People need to open their eyes and realize that its not the breed. If they get rid / ban pits its only going to go to the next best thing. Rotts? what will be next? I have seen what a dog can do when they bite. I have only seen 1 pit bite. But what about all the bites from spanels? You don't see them in the papers or news! The police need to get off their butts and punish the people / owners that give these beautiful dogs their bad reps. Well I'll stop now. I feel myself steppin up on my soap box. Sorry. All I wanted to do is say hi and thank you for starting a forum like this. I even got in touch with the owner of Cold Steel Pits. #3 commin. Thanks again and be safe.
