ZEBO BLOODLINE, can anybody give me some information?

I had a Dogue De Bordeaux, and yea he had a good deterring stance. Not the most alert dog but once he saw/heard something he was pretty straight forward. As with alot of other mastiff breeds theres a good level of DA.

Heres a factor though, the breed has declined so much in regards to health that dogs dieing after only 5 years isn't all that uncommon. When I told some breeders that mine passed at 8 years they told me "Oh wow thats pretty good." Why does this matter? Because DDBs and alot of other mastiffs don't fully mature mentally and physically until after 3 years, my DDB didn't really take to guarding seriously until somewhere between 3~4 years of age. Of course you can get some that are "on" quicker and some slower but generally speaking I think thats what you are dealing with. Then if you take the usual life span you are only getting an effective manstopper for about 2~4 years. Not much value there is it? Before then you'll have to rely on his deterring looks and hope no one calls his bluff. From what I have heard Presas, Corsos, and Filas turn on much quicker in regards to guarding. Don't get me wrong I loved the dog I think they are great...but when I think of all the potential health problems it just turns me away. Just my 2 cents.

The Zebo line throws a high percent of manbiting curs. I see a lot of newbies that read a Statton book and want some of the blood, because they think that it's current and fast lane. The line sucks.

I'd personally select a rottweiler bred for work if you're going to do protection training. You won't find a harding working or harder bite in work, imho. I've been thinking about getting one myself when i got more space.

If you just want a guard dog, mastiff types are the best... its their natural line of work.

I would again have to say no to a Rottweiler. I know a fellow who kept a Rott to guard his yard & some thugs came up with a blanket & a mag light. They surrounded the dog, threw a blanket over him to avoid getting bitten, jumped on him & beat him in the head with the mag light until the dog stopped struggling. Several mos later the guy finds his dog being used as a guard dog at a junk yard!

Presa? Again no. Good dog but could be mistaken for a pit bull. Plus, a lawsuit might arise due to the Diane Whipple incident.

I still say GSD or Dobie. You wouldn't believe how many riff-raff were scared to death of my male GSD b/c they thought he was a "PO-leece dawg." lol.

As for my Dobies, again people think twice before even entering my yard. Remember the Verizon commercial? Think about how many people saw that & believe it! ;)

As for "the Zebo line throwing a high % of man-biting curs" how many have you see Malaki? Or is it something you just heard? :p

    Blessings ...

that couldnt have been a real rott..believe it or not they were the "pitbull" of the 90's as everybody wanted one and there blood got watered down...if you got an import or one from a working breeder you wouldnt have to worry about some thugs stealing your dog..you'd need a high caliber gun just to slow down a rottweiler on charge..there some bad mofo's at what they were bred for..my brother has 2 that are both from german imported parents and believe me you dont wanna make them defend there family..there fierce defenders and we'll rip you to shreds if you dont come correct..

they may not be as quick as a GSD or Dobie but when it comes to man stopping theres not much more you need then the power a rott can put out

Yeah, an american rottweiler compared to a working rottie, is like comparing a watered down poorly bred amstaff to an ABPT. The qualities of an american rottweiler compared to real rottie is further apart than a Amstaff and APBT. Trust me when i say if you get a rottweiler from western europe bred for work... he will play no games.

I agree, Rotts can be bad mofos. But do you think the average Joe is going to shell out $1500-$2500 for an import bred pup when they can get one for $150 out of the paper?

Furthermore, if you have a gang of men against one dog, I don't care how bad your dog is, he can still only attack one at a time. Soon as he goes for one, toss that blanket on him (better make sure it's thick!) & the rest dog pile on him (no pun intended!), bind him up, beat the s..t out of him, muzzle him & toss him in the van & your $1500 Rott is gone.

    Just a thought.

The same could be said about any of those other guardian breeds though. Mastiff type dogs don't come cheap if you want them to be capable of doing work. Any dog bred for work from someone reputable is gonna run you a 1k+ unless you know someone... even more if the dog is already proven. If i had to choose between all the mastiff varieties, GSD, Dobies, Rotties, I'd select a well bred rottweiler just based on its temperment, its a good size but not too big to give up speed, it has an average to higher life span compared to alot of the real large dogs... and western european lines are in good health and generally don't have any problems atleast 6 generations back on their ped. Plus they can just wreck some shit lol

i like shepherds too though, they probably got a little better american lines available. i'm not sure though, haven't looked into getting one much. Most probably still prefer imported dogs from european working lines.

You can get a decent bred Shepherd of Euro lines (parents or grandparents) in my are for $450 - $800. But the one reason I like GSD & Dobies are for

1: The sheer visual deterrent - people equate them w/ police or guard dogs.

2: Who wants to steal a GSD or Dobie? But there are still folks out there who will steal a Rott!

I still liked my Chow too. People are scared to death of Chows b/c of their reputation as man-biters. And the black colored ones doubly so. Those teeth look huge & bright white against that black fur & black mouth!

But I would never advise a Chow to a household that has children b/c many times they will become so protective of the kids that even their own parents may not be able to spank them & their friends will not be able to rough house with them in the presence of the dog!

    Blessings ...

If i could find a good shepherd bred for work with a healthy background for around 500 bucks, i'd buy one right now.

There is a member on this very board that has some for sale for $450. 3/4th Euro, 1/4th American. Sire 100% Euro bred. Ancestors are health tested but I don't think he's done anything with the direct sire/dam.
