What do you do if you are walking down the street and a strange Pit Bull atacks you?

    How do you defend yourself?

    How do you get away?

I'm a big guy so I don't know if this would work for everyone.

I've had a lot of success puffing up my chest, stick my arms out and charging the dog while making the meanest loudest sounds I can possibly scream. It sounds crazy but its worked on more than one occasion while I was jogging in the sticks where I live. The funny thing is that the only dog that I run up and say hi to when he's at the end of his people's driveway is a really old brindle pitbull. He runs up wagging his tail and I stop and say hi. He usually runs to the end of the street with me and then returns home. All the dogs out here that charge me are mutts, labs, or husky looking things.

If it hadn't actually gotten ahold of me I would kick the living s**t out of it. I'd try to keep it as far away from me as possible and not leave my arms open for its mouth. I'd rather have it on a leg or anywhere except an arm because my arms are going to be what I'm going to do the below with. I would never turn my back towards the dog and backup until I was somewhere I could try and jump a fence or go behind something. If there wasn't anything like this I would do my best to find something like a trash can or log to make the dog keep its distance. I wouldn't hesitate to try and kill the dog if I felt it was necessary. I would swing for the fences.

If it got ahold of me I would pluck both of its eyeballs out of the sockets. If that didn't work I would attempt to break its neck with a neck crank. That fails, and I would do my best to choke the living s**t out of the dog and possible try and collapse the windpipe. (I'd attempt to kill it as quickly as possible)

These are all worse case scenarios so please don't flame me. I've never once been attacked by a dog so I don't even plan on having this happen. I've had some pretty "mean" dogs try shit on me and I've either intimidated them back or stood my ground and they ended up coming up for a sniff and a pet.

    Kind Regards,

    B

Hehe. I like that. Much as I hate to see a dogfight, I have to admit that sometimes they can handle the situation better than we can.

Anyway, I've found that my first reaction when being bit by a dog is to grab their nose. Usually that turns them around very quickly. If a dog came charging out at me, I'd probably try to scare them away, which I know is not the smartest thing, but it usually works. (I'm not an intimidating person, but attitude counts for something, LOL.)

I usually walk with my dogs and I know if it came to it my dog would die for me.I would kick the dog in a jaw and try to get away yelling for help. The dog you see in my signature is my best friend. She will live here with me until the day she dies.Although a pain in the butt sometimes I love her so much. She is protective of me and my family though. She knows when something or someone is not right.I trust her instincts. She is not mean at all,she greets company by jumping on them and licking them. She thinks she's a lap dog!!!LOL.I cried my eyes out for days when we thought she had cancer. It was just a couple of fatty lumps but I was told by two vets that it WAS cancer. The breeder I got her from was totally supportive through everything. She gave me her vet. # so I could speak with him.She didn't believe Cami had cancer and she was totally right. She had offered to pay cami vet. bill and everything!!!I did not take her money because Cami was now my responsibility not hers.I owe my deepest gratitude to the kennel I got her from.I will find a way to repay their kindness as they have been there for me rather it was pitbull related or not!!!They are great!!

When an intact Great Pyranese decided to go after me, my leg went up & came in contact with erm, a peice of his anatomy ;)

However, I'd try my best to avoid the situation- jump into a tree or something. If that wasn't possible, I'd go for the eyes. I doubt I could fend off a 50Ib dog on my own, that's a little less than half my own weight. If worse comes to worse, I hope someone would have the smarts to let my dog loose. . .

  9. If it is aREAL Bulldog and he is in WAR I would run and then try to climb on something. If I had no chance to do so I would try to strangle him or something like that.If I had my boys (dogs ) with me I had no Problem;). My dog Jimbo is not souch a strong dog and sometimes I wrestle a little bit with him just for fun....in this case he allways trys to get underneath my head on my throad.I try to kep him away with help of my arms but I have never a chance....in the special moments he is faster and stronger and able to show his colors. If he get my throad he lick it and his tail is wagging all the time but I know if it would be serious he would get a deep hold.I have one hell of respect for Bulldogs.....but I know true man meaning Bulldogs are rare to the vanishpoint. And that is good!

It is a fairly rare dog that will try to bite an adult man who dosen't show any fear of it. If I met that dog and it was going to try to get me and could not be bluffed I'd try to pick up whatever was handy and if nothing was handy I'd try to get a hard kick into its soft underbelly and do my best to not let it get a good hold on me.

I'd probably sh*t myself, honestly. I'm like 5'3" 100lbs soaking wet, I'd probably try to climb something, but if there was nothing there, I honestly do not know what I would do. Its hard to say unless you are actually in a situation like that.

Well the first post is what I have done. Just puff up hold out your arms to make yourself look bigger go towards the dog with no fear and make loud noises to scare the dog in a diff. direction. It has worked for me against many a mutt that has charged me and one Rotti and I'm 5ft nothin'. I'm extremely small the fact of the matter is showing absolutley no fear of the dog. My dog on the other hand thinks I'm playing when I do this to her she sprints off away from me and comes running back to get sacred away again she loves it. She's just wierd.....

I had 2 dogs escape and fight each other in an alley. The local AC officer beat both dogs with a mag light in the head to get them to stop. When I arrived at home (girlfriends fault!!) my girl had lumps all over her head and a LAZY eye from the beating. I called AC and pitched a bitch. 6 tickets turned into none. About 1 year later my female passed away, and I took her to the city yard. Mr. Mag light AC officer was there with a BIG smile, gladly taking my dead dog and literally throwing her in the freezer with all his might. If I see that guy in a public place with no cops to protect him, ITS ON till the day I die....

So, to answer your question....beat them with a mag light like an AC officer is trained to do. LOL

if i couldnt get anywhere, or get anything imbetween us, and the dog grabbed me, i would try and choke the cur out then make sure it NEVER has the chance to try that again.

i have been chased by MANY dogs. 2 shepherd dogs almost became lunch.. they chased me down the street and into my yard. I had just got to my first dog and was about to let him off, but much to the disappoinment of my dog, the curs realized what was around them and took off.

I had an EB come running across the street at me growling and barking. I picked up my male, and tried w/all my might to keep him off the ground (not easy for a small female to hold up a very excited 50 pound dog!!), while the owner is shouting "Dont worry!! Hes nice!" ..... that dogs lucky his owner was around. idiot people...

It is always your fault if your dog is running lose, broken collar or not. That is why I use and recommend 5-ply seatbelt collars with double keepers and heavy duty D rings. This thread isn't about dogs attacking each other. This thread is about how YOU would defend yourself if a dog (specifically a pitbull) attacked YOU. Let's keep it on topic. If you want to share unrelated stories then you should make a new thread. I'm trimming all the fat from this thread.

    Regards,

the first aggressive dog I had to train (a rotty) was the only attack I was part of, it leaped on me I was lucky to get him by the collar and hold him in the air till the owner got controll... (we eventually became good freinds). unfortunatly after a few months, training had platued and i recomended seeing a behaviorist. the behaviorist said the dog would never be stable and he was put down, it was as if he was a dog of my own and I had to leave work I got so emotional. Thats why I dont train aggressives any more.

Interesting Q. this one and tricky to anwser,i think i would stand still, point at the dog(arms close to my body) stare at it and in i firm voice tell it no back etc, break the stare sightly look away then stare again and repeat no,back, etc.keep trying this while slowly backing away.If the dog was hell bent on attack then i try to get a grip on it front legs(i know the dog would be biteing at my hands)and snap them like a chicken wishbone, thus breaking them out of their sockets and thurst them in its heart.Or try to get the dog liying down with me above then jump Knee first with all my force into its ribs, thus again breaking them into it heart.Maybe this would work or not, this a tough Q.
