I have had some experience with this line. My experiences were bad. I've had several to quit on top. Not saying it's all bad just my encounter with it wasn't the best one. I no longer have it on my yard. Real rough dogs but not deeply game.

Hey Gameexchange, I just wanted to ask where did you get your "Skull" ROM dog(s)? What particular kennel(s)? Did they honestly quit on you? I'm just asking because I'm interested in trying out the "Eli" bloodline that Floyd Boudreaux created, as part of my breeding program....

Skull dog are great when they are crossed with the Sixbit's stuff. From what i heard that Skull dogs directly off skull are very rough dogs and have some good bite but when you cross with the Six Bits then thats where your going to get the gameness from. So if i were you i would get a Sixbits/Maverick cross.

Check out my link. With the Eli blood (in my opinion) all you need is just a touch (25% to 12.5%) and no more than that because of the rough cur thing.

  8. If anyone knows anything about bulldogs you know not to judge an entire line of dogs because some off you may have had some of that line that didn't work out. Did you try a different strain or different source? Did you try 3 or 4 dogs and make a judgement or did you try 20 of them. Not every dog is going to work out. If anyone knows and I mean truly and really knows Skull dogs you know "most" are known for average mouth and deep gameness, which is why they are explosive when bred to Frisco/Chinaman dogs who are known for mouth. What kind of skull dogs are you guys judging? Watered down stuff? Great grandsons? I have worked with Skull dogs for 5 years now, have crossed them with a few lines and used them heavy bred as well. Out of my Jeep/Gator/Sixbits/Reno dogs I would take the Skull dogs over any of them anyday, especially when bred to my Elmo dog ;), then again I am biased.

SJBPolo28 if you truly knew anything about Skull dogs you would eat those "rough cur words". ;) People who keep saying this about Eli dogs are just going by hearsay or what was known in the past. Eli dogs of today can go the distance like any dog of any strain. Some have mouth, some don't. There's no reason to stereotype dogs, every situtation, every strain is different, who the owner of the dog is and what kind of patience and training done and not ruining dogs has a lot to with it. To feed this rough cur line to those who don't know any better is just nonsense. There wouldn't be so many Eli supporters if they would all hang it up in 15-20 minutes don't you think.

Here's a picture of one of my skull dogs, purchased directly from the man :)

Floyd himself would have told you that he breeds for mouth. When I asked him what he considered a good dog he said one that would make the other need serious medical attention in 20 min.

Is there a kennel known for keeping tight Skull dogs that anyone knows of? Also, has anyone had ant experience with a Skull X Chinaman cross? Thanks for the replies.

I'll be the first to admitt that I don't know much about bloodlines, but... doesn't the ROM title stand for something?

  17. Funny i never once heard the old man say that was the only thing he bred for ;) I'm sure he would appreciate his name left off these things so i wont get into all that. Listing kennels names and actual living dogs isn't something i really like to do either, should be left up to the owners. I dont like to say much and been writing a few times lately I'll just shut up now. at the end no matter what anyone says everyone's going to use what they like and it's up to the person who feeds the animal to like it or not. A lot of people have heard, but for those that dont know; the source only had Skull the last few years of his life. Skull was about 9 when he got him back. He bred him about 4 years before he parrished in 2002 he was about at 13 the time. His last offspring were born in 2001 he became sterile that year in his old age, was taken to repro center to get checked but died with no viable semen collected, shame. luck yall. As a fellow said it's not a line to be passed up. :)

I know! I meant, the dog earned it from being a good prodcuer, so I'm sure his line is a good one.

Well, MOST of the dogs atop the ROM list, are simply dogs that have been bred a ton. Some would argue a better judge for a dogs producing abilities is the POR status.

Well, I understand that there are curs in every line thats why i made it very clear that "I" had a bad experience with it. I didn't say it wasn't good just didn't work well for me. I believe when you find something that works stick with it. If it doesn't get rid it of it. I would never slander a kennels name so I won't say where I got my strand from but some were off of skull himself and some were his grandchildren but i tried more than 3 but less than 20. It was honestly enough to stir me away. On the other hand a friend of mine has a dog directly off of skull that's stopping stuff in under 20 minutes so hey... just depends. Lock-N-Load kennels has a great son off of Skull called "Hatch" and he crosses in some frisco stuff with it. Give him a try if you would like. I've never had any from him but I've heard good things. Also, I've talked to the old man a time or two and he never mentioned that he only bred for mouth. I live 30 minutes away from him.
