Reward offered to find killer of pit bull

Bucks County's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is offering $1,000 for information that helps Lower Southampton police determine who killed a healthy pit bull terrier Wednesday with a shotgun.

The dead dog was found in the Neshaminy Creek near a boat ramp on the Neshaminy Falls Campground Association property off Manor Lane. It was found about 7 p.m., several hours after a year-round campground resident reported to a co-worker that he had heard three shotgun blasts about 3 p.m., according to police. That resident was later alerted by teens who found the dog.

A veterinarian's examination determined the dog was shot in the head at close range; there were three entrance wounds to the top of the head and the neck, SPCA Humane Officer Kathy Myron said. The dog had no ID attached to its black canvas collar nor did it have an implanted microchip. Besides a collar, the dog was wearing a red, white and blue bandana.

“It looks like it was a well-cared-for animal,” SPCA executive director Anne Irwin said, adding that the brown and black “brindle” dog most likely was someone's pet and not a stray.

Police found two spent 12-gauge shotgun shells in the area where the dog was found and a trail of blood leading to the creek. The dog was placed in storage for evidence at the SPCA office in Solebury. A post-mortem examination was performed by an area vet.

The dog is a neutered male pit bull and about 5 or 6 years old. The dog weighed about 60 pounds.

i wish i knew this bastard.
that was sad.

 

I love it. The media starts a panic over pit bulls, then everyone wonders why dogs are getting killed. Stupidity, thats why.
