Gamebred means bred off game animals, for working ability (i.e. not bred specifically to look pretty standing in a ring). Gamebred APBT's are the direct descendants of the ancient bull/bear/hog baiting dogs hundreds of years ago. If you look at their pictures, they are almost identical to our dogs today, even after all this time. Gamebred means being bred to work, first and foremost, as their ancestors were. Many serious fanciers would go so far as to say if the dog isnt gamebred, its no longer an APBT, but rather an Amstaff or such.

Registries for them include but are not limited to ADBA, UKC (to a very limited extent!), BFKC, AADR, Gamedog registry, etc.

    A link to the ADBA's standard: http://www.adba.cc/p_pdetails.asp?fpid=32

As you will find many times, these dogs arent necessarily bred to conform to a physical standard. Dogs that are conformationally sound enough to hunt, are the dogs that should be bred. This has created an extremely healthy, sociable, well-rounded dog without many of the genetic flaws alot of show-breeds typically have. However, with the fad of show-breeding slowly taking over our breed, and even supposed gamebred dog breeders breeding only for pedigrees and the show-ring, its only a matter of time until it becomes a weakness in our breed as well as the rest. :(

ETA- Its been the belief of many people serious in this breed since registries began having sanctioned shows that you should breed your working animals, and show the ones well-rounded enough to excel in conformation shows. When you breed working animals for the show-ring as its main focus, you loose the essence of the breed entirely, and all but ruin it really.

Any more questions, feel free to ask.
