I bred a female on 8-26 and her nipples have gotten larger but she hasnt show alot of sighns of gettting bigger. Has this happened before i mean is it afaulse pregnancy or what. My real question is about how long is it until they show that they are pregnant.

The only true way of finding out would be to take her to vet and have an ultrasound done. They don't cost to much around here. Good luck!

  3. one question....should you be breeding if you dont know the answer to this??? whatever....anyways...give her until about day 45 until she starts to show. i hope for your dog's sake that everything goes smoothly.

plug the dates in here and it will show you exactly what happens at each stage of the pregnacy:
    http://www.schaferhund.com/pregnancy.htm

False pregnacies are quite common with the breed and it could very well be that is what is happening

I don't think the other poster was judging , but more like making a point...
Breeeding is not to be taken lightly

What's done is done... If you have any questions please ask .

I hope you are lining up good responsible homes as they are hard to find.

I have a litter coming and it was planned for about 3 years and we have been screening homes since then and still continue to do so. It is not an easy task and breeders need to be responsible for making sure each pup gets a good home.

If you want take the questionnaire off of my website's breeding page and use it to help you find good homes

    Good luck with your dog

Everyone is so negative about it because of the state this breed is in. There are way too many people breeding these dogs when they have no idea what the hell they are doing. If you want to breed your dog, I have no problem with it, but you should damn sure know how to tell if she is prego. And when you ask questions like these, you should expect for people to get upset, especially when you answer like you did. Atleast give us a knowledgable response, you know, something like my dog is a Ch and we bred her to improve our stock, or the few other reasons you should be breeding.
Here's a few questions for you to think about during this time:
    1. How old is your female?
    2. Why is she worthy of being bred?
    3. What do you do if she has complications during the birth?
    4. Will you choose to save HER life over the puppies?
    5. Do you have homes lined up for 10 pups?
    6. Are you willing to hand feed all those pups when their mother dies?
    7. What will YOU do with all those puppies when your buyers back out?
    8. Have you been to your local rescue to see all the unwanted APBT pups?
    9. Would you bet YOUR life that your pups will not end up in rescue?
    10. Are you willing to take back any pup you produce even if it is 7(+) years old?
    11. How long have you been involved with this breed?
    12. Do you have a mentor?
    13. Have you ever experienced the birth of a litter?
    14. What do you hope to produce out of this litter?
    15. Have you been to your local shelter to see how many APBT pups and adults are sitting on death row?

If you say yes to this last one, and you can still breed without a guilty concience, knowing you will add to the population who dies just for being born, than you'd better have one hell of a dog who has been proven worthy enough to be bred.....<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

It is an excellent posting jaded pit girl, but the bitch has now been bred, so it's sort of moot. Perhaps next time ohav4 isconsidering breeding, (he or she) will consider the questionnaire. Thanks so much Patch O Pits for giving ohav4 useful info to help ohav4 take care of the dog.
Not an attack on you Iverson's Pits. I understand your anger, but at least ohav4 is trying to learn something useful. If ohav4 stays here (on this forum) it is entirely possible that ohav4 may come to understand your point of view, perhaps become converted to it.
And mrsmickey how much do ultrasounds cost in Tennessee? Just an office visit to the vet here in California costs around $45, that is not including prescriptions. I took Blue to the vet for foxtail removal...and they anestetized her and gave her medicine and clipped her nails..total cost around $240. That was a big ding in my budget.
Not that she was not worth it. The terrible thing was also, that I knew it was foxtail season. I checked her feet after every walk, after every visit out into the back yard and still somehow I managed to overlook the fact that she got a foxtail between her toe pads. It had worked its way deeply into her foot before I saw it. So even if you are vigilant and well-meaning you can make mistakes.

  9. I WASN'T ATTACKING. PEOPLE NEED TO GROW THICKER SKIN. IT WAS A QUESTION THAT DEMANDS THE RESPONDER TO DO SOME PERSONAL REFLECTION AS TO THEIR GOALS AND ETHICS. DONT LIKE IT? TOUGH SHIT. I DONT LIKE ALOT OF THINGS.....BUT EDUCATION IS WHY I ANSWERED THE QUESTION ANYWAYS. AND NO...I DONT "ALWAYS JUDGE PEOPLE." I WAS INVOLVED IN SOME AMATURE BREEDING SOME YEARS BACK, AND I RECIEVED MY DOSE OF ENLIGHTENMENT. DID I COMPLAIN ABOUT MY FEELINGS GETTING HURT? NOPE. I HOPE THE POSTER DOES STAY OF THIS FORUM AND LEARNS ALL THEY CAN. HELL, IM STILL LEARNING ALL THE TIME. BUT TELL ME, IF THEY DONT KNOW HOW LONG A PREGNANCY TAKES, ARE THEY GONNA BE ABLE TO ASSESS ANY TYPE OF BREEDING COMPLICATION? SO WHEN THE PUPPIES START DYING OFF ONE BY ONE AND ALL BUT 1 OR 2 ARE GONE IN A MATTER OF HOURS, AND THE BITCHES BREASTS RUPTURE OR ABCESS, PROVING FATAL FOR HER....IS IT GONNA BE A FUN LEARNING EXPERIENCE STILL? NO.

SO AGAIN......GIVE HER UNTIL ABOUT DAY 45 AND YOU'LL KNOW. PAST DAY 30 YOU CAN GET AN ULTRASOUND.

AND AGAIN....FOR YOUR DOG'S SAKE....I HOPE EVERYTHING GOES SMOOTHLY.

I DONT SEE A DAMN THING WRONG WITH MY ORIGINAL POST.

Yeah they are exactly right, why should they;re geting angry to people who are asking about breeding? You never know how much our dog mean to us? Our dogs are important. Thats why we seek help or advise... anyways i guess nobody in this world is perfect or master about anything if they dont start to nothing????

What's the use of the forum if we cant get information from you??/ Just dont give your negative idea.... pls???

I think what people are saying is the whole thing is ass backwards. First you gain the knowladge (which take a while) than you do the breeding. It takes time alone to own a dog that you are sure is worth breeding in the first place.

  12. exactly...and if someones dog was "really important" to them, they wouldn't use their bodies and jeapordized their health or even their life to experiment and "learn" with. they would understudy, apprentice, watch, read, learn and have as many tools and as much knowledge as possible BEFORE such a huge undertaking. i know some may have never had a complication...and that's great...they're lucky. but that is not the norm, and if someone were to care so much for their female dog...i dont believe that they would breed her for experimentation, bordom, profit, or even to gain experience. i believe the experience SHOULD come thru second hand knowledge long before they risk their dogs health and livelyhood. am i wrong?

still, passed all that.....i still answered the posters question.

i guess i've lead a different life, and maybe the military has made me this way...but i think people need to grow the hell up, grow some thicker skin, and realize what really matters. and im not just talkin about people on this thread, or even this forum. i see it all the time.

are people's lives so simple and so easy that they feel they have the ability or need to complain about things so trivial and pety? you dont like the way i told you that you suck? tough shit. you dont do what you were hired to do out of laziness or underqualification and you get fired? tough shit. that's what you get! you think the world is out to get you because the color of your skin or what's between or not between your legs? grow up, stop making excuses for yourself and blaming all your misfortunes, fuck ups, ignorance, and shortcomings on everyone else ...and start taking responsibility for yourself.

im not a mean guy. if you met me, you'd probably spend your entire day laughing and in a good mood. people on the internet take things the wrong way or too personally and it only stresses them out. i personally dont care. does someone want to tell me i suck. go ahead. do you think its gonna effect my day in the least bit? nope. hell, moderators of this forum have told me i suck out of false assumptions. im still here, happy, and liking this board. and if they were to stop thru town, i'd gladly give them a place to stay and hopefully they brought their bulldogs! i think this is a generation of softies and whiners and i guess im just old fashioned....even though i am still pretty young.

EXACTLY right. This is something that you should ALWAYS do.

The guy that owned the gyp that one of my males came from didnt have her x-ray'd. Well, she had 9 healthy pups, and everything seemed to be going good until the next morning. She started expelling some foul thick green discharge, a little later she started acting strange so he took her into the vet. There was a 10th puppy that was dead stuck inside her still. That 10th pup killed her.

He would tell you (not only was he upset that he lost his female) that taking round the clock care for 9 pups is no walk in the park.

    Better safe than sorry!!
