<!-- END Story Toolbar --><!-- Lead Content Panel -->TWO policemen have not been prosecuted for shooting a dog after tying it to a tree.

An inquiry recommended the men be summonsed under the Animal Welfare Act.

But police last night said the officers had been subjected only to "internal disciplinary action". The first officer fired at the family pet from close range but missed.

A shot from the second officer passed through the dog's neck - depriving it of the ability to bark - and cut the rope.

The animal ran home to its master with blood pumping out of the entry and exit bullet wounds.

Ombudsman Carolyn Richards, who investigates complaints against Territory Government departments, said she was "appalled". Dog-owning Police Minister Chris Burns said he was also appalled.

The incident happened after police in an unnamed "remote locality" went to a house to arrest a man's son on an outstanding warrant.

A struggle started and the family dog bit one of the officers. The police decided the dog was a "vicious animal" and should be put down.

The owners said the officers did not fully explain that they were going to kill the animal and they were "coerced" into letting them take it away.

The dog was taken into the bush, tied to a tree and shot. After the first shot, the pet was "jumping all over the place".

The police found out that the dog had returned home, but decided against seizing it again.

The Joint Review Committee - made up of police and staff from the Ombudsman's office - investigated the case and found the officers had made "misleading" statements and been inhumane.

It recommended internal disciplinary action and prosecution.

OMG! So much is wrong here, but I can't believe those sick bastards got off with nothing. I mean come on.....I can even kill an animal at point blank range. What they did was sick & twisted & not only should they have been fired, but they should have been shot in the neck & then left.

Un Fu*king Believable, this is why i fu*king hate cops, their just a waste of taxpayers money and think that they are above the law so they can get away with anything they want. God damnit if this happened to me there would be serious trouble for those cops, i would find out where those damn cops lived and have them taken care of. Man the justice system in this country is such a joke, i don't know why we even have cops, their worthless pieces of shit

  4. like to shoot them motherfuckers through the neck pigs think they can do anything

1-I thought an officer of the law was only allowed to shoot his firearm if he was deemed under reasonable threat to life. (how can a tied up dog be a threat? especially when they were the ones to tie it there?)

2-The police decided the dog was a "vicious animal" and should be put down. Now they are judge, jury and Veterinarians. Any dog that has bitten needs to be quarantined for 10 days and then, if deemed dangerous, euthanized by a licensed vet.

3-The dog was taken into the bush, tied to a tree and shot. After the first shot, the pet was "jumping all over the place". No comment necessary:mad:

4-The police found out that the dog had returned home, but decided against seizing it again. Now, the ONLY reason they decide this is because they were in the wrong.!

    Power trippin azzholes!!!!!

That is so fricken messed up. These cops need to be tied up and each individual finger needs to be cut off one at a time, so they can never pull another trigger again.

That's terrible. That family needs to be fighting for both of their badges.

Any psychiatrist will tell you the only difference between a career criminal and a cop is a badge.

I get so sick of hearing this anti-cop bullshit. It makes me want to puke. We don't strap on a gun every night & risk our lives just to listen to you bitch about how sorry we are.

Are there bad cops? Yeah. But there are many, many good ones too. Don't lump all us "pigs" all in the same category.

As for the only difference betwen a career criminal & a cop being the badge, all I have to say to that is screw you. I wore a badge for 3 years & my husband wore one for almost 12. Both of us are honest upstanding citizens w/ no criminal tendencies whatsoever. I think the worst thing either of us ever did was get a speeding ticket.

Most of the bad cops (not all but most) were made that way after dealing w/ scumbags in the PUBLIC day in & day out. Some folks can't take it & some either join the crimnal element or become stone-hearted sadists. But that doesn't mean we all are like that. I'd bet for every bad officer there are 100 good ones. But just like pit bulls, only the bad ones made the headlines & the good ones go unnoticed. :(

BTW, those of you who hate cops do us a favor & when someone breaks into your house & tries to rob you blind or kill you, don't call us. We'd rather risk our lives for someone who cares instead of some sorry-ass hypocrite.

In closing, I apologize for my language. I just hate seeing cop-haters bitch.

I have a lot of friends that are K9s and police officers. They are good people. Think about it folks, we as the Pit Bull community get tired of being LUMPED together with all the street thugs and idiot irresponsible dog owners. I say don't turn around and do it to another group of folks, we don't like it when they do it to us. People of all walks of life are human....some good - some bad. Also lets put the source on call here...we HATE the press. Not saying they misreported this incident but heaven knows they sure have a terrible track record for selectively reporting the facts. Food for thought.

yea well until the day a cop does something good for me or my family, i wont have any respect for a single one of them. I grew up in a rough neighborhood and my sister still lives in a pretty rough neighborhood and like u might guess a lot of crazy shit went down in that hood. Well out of all of the shit that happened over the years, there hasn't been one incident that the cops have done what they should have. They always seem to not believe anyone, and assume that ur lying to them, then they turn around and try to accuse u of doing something bad when ur the one who called them. Effing joke is what they are, atleast in the city i grew up in. I know there are some good cops out there, but i haven't seen one yet

Thanks guys. Your kind words makes me feel a little bit better.

And I do agree these officers should be punished to the fullest for what they did. In fact, IMO they should be fired b/c if they will be cruel to a dog, they cannot be trusted to take care of humans.

And I agree, media for the most part is our prime enemy, as are ppl like PETA, ALF, etc. Not the police.

To have an open mind after your personal experience speaks very highly to your character.....I hope you meet a good one someday, soon :)

Thanks, U know whats funny i thought it would be a 100 times better once i moved out to the suburbs, damn was i wrong. The cops out here are even worse cause they aint got shit to do so they try to do anything possible to find something to bust someone on. An example was when a family friend was beating on his wife and the cops got called, they ended up not doing anything to the husband and actually blaming the wife for the incident, that right there blew my mind.

Do you think that might have anything to do w/ the PEOPLE they are dealing with? Most of the hood cops are the most jaded & calloused cops out there & it doesn't have anything to do w/ them as a person, but what they see & go thorugh day in & day out. A cop in Detroit isn't going to be anything like a cop in Toledo. Why? Because of the PEOPLE they deal with.

I know when I was in the academy all the guys I went to school w/ were good guys. As rookies they were still pretty cool. But after a few years, the guys in the rough stations were very jaded, whereas guys in the middle to upperclass stations were pretty much unchanged. And the only differential in the equasion was where they were stationed & who they dealt with.

So don't blame the cop. Blame what you made him.

(BTW, I don't mean "you" in a personal term I am using "you" in a general term.)

Wow easy now, don't go blaming the way the cops are on me or anyone else. I for one have no criminal record and the biggest law i've ever broken would be a speeding ticket. The experiences i have are all when me or someone i know calls the cops because we are the victims of some crime. I understand what ur saying about the cops basically not caring anymore because of the areas they work in, but shouldn't a cop be a pretty good judge of character, and be able to decifer between good and bad? Plenty of good people live in bad areas because they can't afford anything else, does that mean that they should be treated like the criminals in the area?
