I hope you plan on spaying and neutering them BEFORE they leave. We dont need anymore merle "pitbulls" being bred. Why did you leave the dogs alone if you knew one was in heat ?

Cute pups. But, like HighVoltage said, are all pups being altered before placement? If she was set to be spayed anyway, why wasn't a spay/abort done?

Honestly, IMO that is not a good combination of dogs. A spay/abort should've been done, but I hope to God those pups are spayed/neutered ASAP & went to homes where the people are highly educated about both Catahoulas & APBT. Catahoula personalities are polar opposites of APBTs.

All have gone to working homes that they are neutering or spaying them but they are only 6 wks old so i couldnt do it before they left. and my dad didnt have the money for a 400.00 abortion and i sure didnt i m a single mother. working on min. wage. and we thought she was out of heat because she had been in for 3wks already and there were no signs of it and to top it all off my dog was chained up while i was there. and yes all have went to educated people one is going to work for the sheriff dept livestock thing (where they track escaped or stray livestock). 2 have went to hog dog people but not breeders ( they are all people i know and believe me they dont breed them they just hunt them) and then some people supposed to be looking at the 2 for hog dogs and then the 3rd is supposed to begoing to my cousin as a indoor dog and she will definately be gettin fixed also! believe me I thought of that before hand so before everyone gets all pissy relax and have a little faith with my mistake.

Mistakes can happen, but what you see on the news and in the news papers, in the over crowded animal shelters ,running loose starving in the streets is probably a big percentage because of mistakes. One must be careful and use precations as 1 mistake (litter of puppies )are born , put into homes where again mistake breedings happens then we have more puppies who are placed where more breedings takes place, we have a snowball effect that goes on and on , all from one little mistake. Puppies are cute, hope you are right and the new owners do alter them asap.

Just remember to stay in touch with the new owners & I would politely ask to see proof of spaying & neutering even in the hunting dogs. Hell, those who use them as hog dogs would have better success being able to hunt without worrying about the males going insane of a nearby female in heat & with not worrying about a female having to go into heat. Pretty much means they could hunt all the time with no time off. ;)

  9. thats what im sayin....be easy. people act like u should just kill dogs just cause theyre not pedigree and this and that or cas it was an accident.
worry bout your own dog unless somebody elses comes on your porch.
all dogs have something to offer, especially to somebody who doesnt have the money to splurge on an expensive dog
    congrats on the pups

  10. This almost always may be true, but when it comes to "THE PIT BULL" everybody knows more chaos and heads turn, usually in a negative aspect, rather than positive. I uderstand where you are coming from, as I myself have a mutt (2 breeds) and I don't know what I would do with-out him, I love him with all of my heart. But his mixed breed is not a pit bull, that leaves me wondering how stable he will be, or if he might turn on me, or leaves the window open for idiotic poeple to run him in the ground. Believe it or not, it does make a difference when it is a pit bull mix. It shouldn't but it does.
Even having said that, the pups are still cute...as I think ALL dogs are ADORABLE!

I always respect what you have to say on the pit bull comm. Miakoda. That is good advice.

Well, I for one have had a pup out of this type of mix, and the dog was wonderful. Several folks around here have them for hog dogs. Course, I prefer my bulldogs over any breed, mix or not, but that's just me.

i too, understand that mistakes happen, but still. you gotta take responsibility for the mistakes you let happen. imo. hell, it happened to my bitch,,she had mutt pups,,so i had to FIX the problem that i let happen by not placing my female with somebody capable enough to deal with a dog that's went into heat.but stay on the peoples asses about fixin those dogs,,make it a requirment of getting them. because if you l;et them go,,each will find a way to make a "mistake" happen again an again,,,spreading the bad name of pits if any one of those dogs got in the news. see what i'm sayin? i'm not bitchin, just lettin ya know as well as anybody else. thousands of these mistakes are happening everywhere. making it more an more common for these mongrels to end up in the streets or in the shelters.

One thing is for sure a Catahoula is supposed to be a cur dog that bays. Now you mix that with a APBT you have something more dangerous to itself in the field most likely that will bay for a moment and try to catch the next and get killed as normally the catch dogs are vested not the curs. It would take some one that is experenced in both. I use cur dogs too for bear and cougar, and only APBT for catch. I got a South Texas Cur from a friend of Bamaboy that is a rough cur who doesn't cur for long so I will have to watch her close and work with her. My walker just bays and that is it unless she has to get involved. Accedental breedings happen. I suppose they would be effective on bear more than hog. So long as you expected and were prepaired for some results not desirerable. Black and Tans get in there so I would expect them to behaive more like something of that nature with even a higher drive to fight. I don't know what I think of it. On one hand I would be interested just to see how they hunt and the other I think cull em and not mess with fire. May end up with a pack you can't control or handle and that isn't good when you're stuck with a bear and your dogs are fighting each other over who gets to get the bear or what ever. That would really suck. lol

6 weeks is not too young to get them altered so go do it! Mom too! ...and don't give me that "I can't pay for it" crap. You and your father made the mistake of leaving an intact male alone with a female who was in heat (even if it was towards the end) so y'all have to pay the price for that, literally. If you can't afford to get your pet fixed then you shouldn't own one in the first place.

And why isn't your dog neutered either? Do you breed? If so, how can you afford to take care of multiple dogs and many puppies when you can't pay for a simple spay/neuter surgery? If not, why wasn't he neutered? Money isn't an excuse...

There are programs for low income homes and/or pit bulls that will spay/neuter for free or at a low price, so go look into it instead of letting other people deal with it or letting something like this happen again. If you don't get it done yourself, you sure as hell better make a contract saying if its not done by 6 months of age, you can confiscate those pups.

I'm not going to sugar-coat things by saying I "have a little faith" in you to fix what you've let happen. I see people who say the same thing and then a year later theres a second generation of "oops" pups to worry about. As Aceman said, theres a huge ripple effect to worry about.

Ugh, shit like this drives me insane ...especially when the owner knows better and it's not just ignorance.

I don't see what is so hard about putting a bitch up when she is in heat to keep her from being bred. I have four kennels set up for such events when I don't aim to have that bitch bred. My male dogs are on chains and normally so are my bitches but when they enter heat I put them up so some stray or if one of my males happens to get off the chain by some strang event. I have never had an accedent litter. or a mutt litter. I don't alter dogs. I have one fixed dog and it is a male American Bull Dog from some one else that didn't want him any more. He is a good dog and she was going to dump him at the pound. Rotten bitch. Anyway the rest of my dogs are intact. only breeding that goes on is what I set up. I really don't under stand why every one can't do the same. Dog comes into heat put her up. And don't expect any male with in 5 miles not to breed her if you leave her unattended with them. What a person does with their dogs is their business but it doesn't take that much work to keep things like this from occuring. Cutting the male doesn't solve the issue as there is just another male down the road probably that will get loose to visit her. It is nature. If a person has a use for a altered dog that is fine. If not be smart and keep them separated during those three weeks or even a month to be safe. One thing is never let your dogs run free no matter in season or not. It just isn't a smart route to go.

  18. i understand the fact of people labeling pit bulls. but i think this matter still boils down the the owner. as long as the owner does not allow the dog to end up in the newspaper the dogs will be just like any other dog.
those puppies didnt sign a piece of paper sayin they wanted to be brought into this world....and after reading the fine print of what it would endure from society just for having pit bull in it, it prob would have declined the offer.

i understand that these pups could end up adding to the bad name of pit bulls......but hey guess what.....yours could too

#1 the female was in a fenced yard my male was on a chain in the fenced yard, she had been in heat for her 3 wks she was supposed to be out no signs at all.

#2 there is no vet here in town or in county that will fix the pups until 6 mths old they say its better for the dog and that the males they say there nuts have to DROP first

#3 ALL the pup that are gone at this time WILL be fixed they are in homes that it is MANDATORY because of the work the OWNERS are having them do.

#4 my dogs do not roam FREE

#5 the owners that are using them for hunting all have EXPERTICE in both breeds they have been hunting both for 20+ years

#6 Im not getting my male fixed because were i live i do not have a problem with him getting to any females (i had went to visit my dad and this happened)

#7 I wont have to stay on these people about getting the dogs fixed because all of there other dogs have been fixed as soon as they come to age! and plus i see these people at least 1-2 times aweek so its not like i dont stay in touch with them

#8 and none of these people are bragging about nothing full blood they have told everyone that they have spoke to that it is mixed(MUTT)

#9 and i placed them in careful homes where people know what the hell they are doing so there isnt gonna be any media issue where they are going.

#10 all pups are being fixed as soon as a vet will allow it the ones that go to there new homes WILL be fixed by the owners and fot the 2 that are left if they dont find new homes by that time i will have it done but further more IT WILL BE DONE !

So you know like i said there was a mistake it is being taken care of iam not one to knock a dog in the head just because it doesnt have papers. my best dog i have ever owned was a mutt and it wasnt a pit mix either. so all these pups but two have forever homes that NO breeding will be done. the way yall act is that these pups are going to be the down fall of everything. imean our sheriff dept has taken one of them as there livestock search and herd dog and the guy that will be training it that knows the breeds says at 6 wks he shows real good potential
