Just as an example, today I caught a short glimpse of some show on AP about late-night vet interns. Someone brought in a chow, who although beat up, was not terrible in the least. They seen internal mouth wounds, and were contemplating putting the dog to sleep. This is a dog who would be up and back to normal in a week, with proper care/medications. I hate to break it to you, but many vets are not equiped or knowlegable enough to handle dog-fighting trauma. Bring in a bulldog that was just in a fight, and your probably going to lose the dog, and be thrown in jail, even if it was a puppy walking into other dog's spots, and getting jumped by a few yard dogs as well!
I'm sure ABK is more then able to take care of her own dogs!

Mouth wounds although harder to treat and keep on the recovery, are not a major issue, if cleaned properly, and on the right AB's.

  4. well since it was a game-dog forum i took your name as "love bein game" kinda like when ppl put shortened stuff on liscense plates. i see it's love being me now.

  5. Yes you can say WHAT because God does not lie and early enough you(and all humans on earth) will notice what I mean. Jamaine Europe and America are not the whole world. You have to wake up and see that Bulldogs are all over the world now....Asia,Arabia and so on....and be sure in china russia or the philipines or japan they are breed for what they were ever breed for. This dogs are humanfriendly, talentet in many aspekts, good big-game hunter and they are the best pound for pound fighter world -wide. And only her special genetic-task is responsible for it. How many matches did you see in wich a dogman was sad because he lost his money? None because dogmatches are illegal right? Then please be not unfair to dogman since maybe some illegal people know it better and they talk(tip) not half as much about the subject than you. And to the whole in the fence.....I think you know my point now. Dont talk to much about freewill. Better free -willi sometimes...^^

"Well, you are wrong" In your eyes, and that's fine. The bottom line for me is I would NEVER purposely let my dogs be harmed in ANY way. I am their protecter, and to me, that means not allowing them into situations where they may experience pain....even if they want to engage in that behavior.

I agree that we are responsible for our animals and should look out for their best interests and the interests of those around you.

"Humans don't come from breeding programs, and they are certainly not forced into it, it's just enjoyable for some" ACK! This is what makes my stomach churn. The reason I typed about the dog fight in my house was to try and explain how horrific the experience was for me. I cannot in any way shape or form understand how someone can ENJOY watching it. I have suffered some serious after effects from that day, and I can't imagine just standing idly by and watching. Just a reminder.....that's my opinion.

I was still referring to humans there, as in, engaging in the activity is very enjoyable despite the risks of injury and/or pain. I understand an unexpected dog fight like the one you discribed can be very unnerving.

Personally I think racing horses is cruel. That might be another 20 page thread though so let's let that one be.

Really? Well, I'de be happy to take that to PM... I love a good debate. I agree that horse racing CAN be cruel to the horse, for the exact reasons I mentioned in my past post. Just as you have been involved in APBT rescue, I have a little experience in former horse racers, so we could pick that apart later.

I really wanted to comment on this as well, as I DO agree that many large rescues are demented (like PETA), I understand what you are saying. Having worked in shelters (non-profit/privately funded) MOST workers/volunteer just LOVE APBT's. They are a favored breed by those who work with dogs in any field. They also make up a HUGE percentage of unwanted animals, because they are easy to aquire (over bred) and because they are difficult to keep as mere "pets" (the are a working breed/very active).

One shelter I worked at was located in a city that does not even allow APBT's. And we did not euth ANY animals unless they were deemed unapotable (human aggression or fatal illness). We even went to extent to perform surgeries to repair the APBT's and later put them up for adoption to APPROVED homes.

APBT's made up half our entire kennel EASY (and again, this is in a city where the breed is banned). The worst part of that, is that any APBT we took in was there for MONTHS. This was hard, because although we knew they were great dogs that just needed the right home, we could have helped "save" a dozen other dogs in the time it took to save just ONE APBT. Yet, we would NOT euth them unless they were HA, which was rare obviously.

I imagine that we both understand this Jaime... it is very unfortunate. The reason so many devoted APBT breeders cull with the killing method is because of things like this. If a pet home can be found, good, but with so many dogs already in shelters, the breeders feel responsible for THEIR animals, and figure someone seeking a PET can just go take one from the shelter where it has been sitting for months.

AND THIS IS WHY WE HATE PEDDLERS (BYB'S) BECAUSE THEY JUST DON'T GET IT!

Edit* actually we DID euth a dog for being AA, he was also my favorite one. He was VERY AA, and we already had half the shelter dedicated to APBT's at the time with plenty of AA animals already waiting to get new homes... very unfortunate... he was a good dog... wish I could have had him.

??? lol dear that statement has nothing to do with you. lol Love you too. Don't worry I typed in German because my friend is German. I will say every thing in English that has to do with you so you can read it plainly. I could put it in Magyar as I am such though.

Oh and I don't hate you. If I did I would say so. No worries I am quite strait forward.

well i suppose if i had a poorly skilled vet that would happen but if your vet isnt skilled then they shouldn't be your vet! i see your point though and just hope that the dog is gtting proper care and meds. i also notice DA and gameness are used interchangeably in this thread and to me they are different. a lot of dogs out there are DA but not game.
anyway there is something to be said for having DA dogs and getting them to live together.
that isn't having a dog with a broken spirit that is called having leadership. i am sure a couple members of my pack would love nothing better than to fight but they dont because they respect my leadership.

Yes I've seen it happen. Any kind of abuse can hurt a dog spiritually.
