Quote:yes you did. First name Richard. You can order his books just about anywhare that sells books. I even orderd one threw barns and nobil. Or you could buy the L.Colbys book if you wanted to know more about the Colby dogs spicificly, Just make shure to send the book my way when youre done with it. I think it runs about 100 smakaroos. Pritty expensive for a book

Yikes! That expensive huh?? I'll have to look it up, if i get it i'll read it and send it your way if you really want, i have this thing, i can't read a book twice no matter how good it is, so after reading it it's pretty much useless to me, I have very good memory when it comes to reading books!

I don't see where I was bashing anyone, and that was certainly not my intent. Granted, it may have come off a little harsh and I apologize. I am sorry if you took my questions and personal opinions as "bashing" you. Either way, I won't take this off topic again :) Good luck with your pup. He sounds as if he is in good hands.

Frisky, is this your first APBT?

If so, I would be more concerned about doing research on the breed overall, and not simply specific bloodlines. Do you have the papers on the pup? If not, I wouldn't be so sure to call her "Colby", many BYBs and less-than-knowledgable folks will try and pass off any dog (Generally piebald ones) as Colby-bred, simply because it's a well-known line (The very same thing happened to me, although I aquired the dog through people who could no longer keep her).

As others have said, Colby's own book would be the best place to start for information on the line.

You can usually find someone selling the Stratton books on Ebay. As for socialization, wait until after your pup has all his shots. You dont want to take him to parks as he might pick up distemper or some other virus. Once he has his shots take him everywhere with you. Get him used to different sights and sounds. Stand in front of the local supermarket and let people pet him. Also Pit bulls are high energy dogs that need a lot of exercise. Do some research on flirtpoles, springpoles, etc. A tired dog is a good dog!

33MTA3: Right on! If we don't welcome newbs regardless of what they have done, all they will do is flee to another board where they will likely learn nothing & be enouraged to breed their blue dogs, unreg. dogs. etc. This is a site of great learning for a newb, so let's not run them off!

And as a side note I ma not saying w/ have to agree of be slient about what a newb has done or is going to do. But gentle guidance will serve us, them & the breed a lot more than flaming.

Friskycatz: Welcome! I love your nick BTW, very cute!

As to your question, I grew up w Colby dogs & they were great dogs. Our adults were protective, intelligent & sweet. The puppies were cute & loving, but were little balls of energy. They can sometimes be very demanding & can require a good bit of excercise (at least mine did).

As an adut I got a Colby/Eli male & he was a wonderful dog as well. Also very intelligent & sweet.

I noticed your comment about your pup being little. Most game bred pit bulls are little w/ most not exceeding 50 lbs.

There is a memeber on this board called Stillwater, once he sees this thread he will post, I'm sure. He runs Colby dogs & can tell you much more.

    Good luck! :)

Congratulations on the new family member. I hope the pup turns out to be everything it is supposed to be for you. I am sorry that you are being attacked, but not everybody is attacking you.
Colby dogs. I have one here, and she is one of the easiest to care for. She loves my kids, and me and my wife, she loves to play, she CAN get along with other dogs, as long as they arent trying her, then she doesnt back down. Occupy the pup with constructive activities, or it will find something to get into. Look on this site about proper containment. Know its history, and always be aware that things happen at the most inoportune times. Good feed, good shelter, good training....and you will never want another type of dog.

  11. I thing the very most ch from today have more or less colby blood as background...or?

Oh, and I would highly recomend "The Complete Gamedog" by Ed Faron. I was going to put some stuff together for prospect owners of my pups, and then give them a test before letting them have one, just so they would know how to care for the dog and such, and his book has everything I was going to put in there and more. It will tell you some of the history of some of his dogs, if will let you know that you had better watch you step and the consequences(story of him being busted), then in the second half, it will take you through everything you need to know to raise a healthy, happy bulldog. Only other thing you may want to know is to re Colby's book, as it pertains to the bloodline you have. I never will forget my very first bulldog! They will capture your heart, I bet yours already has!LOL

And to answer the question of someone on here forgive me i can't remember the name but no i also have a american bulldog i own that was a foster turned permanent resident here, but i wasn't sure if the colby would be diffrent with training versus the american, which i had plenty of time to research on.

  17. umm where is the pic section???
