I haven't tried asking that way yet, but I will Monday morning because like "Old Timer" said it would be the safest way to contain them and I believe it because it's a tried and true method.

i called a junkyard like 2 miles from my house.

told em that I wanted it to stake a dog out.

    I got a 4 ft truck axle for a 5 dollar bill.

since then i've been able to get two more for the same price (for future use ;) )

i'd try callin and telling them what you plan on using it for.

    best of luck tomorrow

I know exactly what one you are talking about. I bought some from TSC and so far they work good. I had to use a shovel and dig them up when I moved my chains around. It was a pain but at least the dogs cant pull them out. They want about $30 here for axels too and you have to pull them yourself. I dont know how to do that so we bought these and these other ones that \are orange with prongs on the end and boh are working so far.

I told a couple of'em what they were for and they said they wouldn't sell'em for those purposes. Tx is full of A$$holes anyway. I mean it.

just depends on where your at and how you act son.us Texans don't like people that seem funny in the least bit we are very old fashoned around these parts.but like i stated to you before my offer still stands if you really can not find a axel in your area and are serious about taking care of your dogs right.but i have never heard of a junkyard not want to sell a part no matter what the purpose is for them.if you got the money you got the part.

Scratchy, I'll be lookin for axles soon too so if I find a yard that sells em under 10 bucks, I'll let you know.

...BTW, Travel up north and I can practically promise you that you'll come back extremely grateful you live here, lol. Texans are some of the friendliest people. Although, the Dallas area has grown quite a bit so there's probably an influx of yankee jerks. :p I kid, I kid. But really, I've found Southerners are much more friendly.

tell them you are looking for a used AXLE SHAFT front or rear will do. None of their business what you plans with them are! Should be around $3-5 per.

Seems like I offended you old man. I'm a Texan myself and always have been, but I'm not stuck in my Texan ways. My dogs are taken care of rightfully and always will be. There is no "one way" to do things. Those axles would be useful but since I already have them setup securely then I'll leave'em that way. I know you were just trying to help and i appreciate it. Not too many people out there would offer a hand, not in real life anyway.

didn't offend me just kinda pissed me off you saying Texas is full of assholes when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.judging by the way you wrote this down seems to me your one of them new ''Texans'' that want to act like they do in the big city, thats why you didn't get far with people.now a question i have for you is if you allready have them setup on a good set up your happy with why did you make a thread wasting everyones time here asking about axels?but to anwser a part you thought seemed odd why i offered to help you.reason is i come from the generation that belives in helping their fellow man out,my screen name ain't just that i am in fact a old timer and a southern old timer at that who is set in his ways.i go by the golden rule treat others as you yourself would like to be treated.that goes in real life or on the computer any time i can help out someone i am there to lend a hand.i don't know what part of Texas your in but that used to be and still is a pretty common thing here especially in my neck of the woods.either you live in a part where it has been invaded with yanks who 99.9% of them are pig ignorant,or you talk to people in real life like you talk on here and that ain't gonna get you to far anywhere across this nation.maybe you should go back to your Texas ways they will get you a whole lot further in life than acting like what you see on tv or hear in the music that ain't gonna get you no place.

Ok I have cleaned this thread up... it is about axles not about southerns VS northerners... keep it on topic or it will be closed.

  12. We are able to get ours for $3 and $4 here. (Thank goodness) I would really try to ask for a damaged one....might make a difference.

I have posted about this befor. The best way is to put in the ground with a good HD swivle lach at the collar. I have a 55lb. dog and he has ran in circul 3 times and come at my lawn mower full speed it took he off his feet the chain is still thair. Also the chain can't get tangeled up on the axle this way. I would put this set-up against any dog or other set-up. Hope this helps.

I'd use one with a built in swivel myself. I never use the car axles anymore. I have a few from back in the day, but the ones with a built in swivel are MUCH better, less mainenance . They are about 10 bucks more, but highly worth it.

Despite what alot of people say about em'....I use the orange stakes from wal-mart that have the chain welded to it. Just drive em' all the way into the ground and you shouldnt have any problems out of em'. I've been using them for quite some time now and have never had any problems....

But if you have a welding machine and all the "other stuff".....just cut some 2" angle iron into 2' pieces and weld about a foot of chain to the top of it with about 2 links welded to it...just make it about an inch from the top. I plan to make some like that to sell once I get a Dog Supply store going ;)
