Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by idgie, Aug 9, 2007.

Not to get off topic but do you own a gamedog? How would you know if they would be easy house dogs or not or are you going with what you heard. Now people are getting off a little on the subject talking about dogs that wouldnt scratch at the end well hell yeah i would cull that dog like it was nothing but we are talking about a old dog that will make that last scratch and is a CH are we not. And minor threat if your having dogs that arent working for you right and not making there scratches then you might want start with some new stock.

IMO, If a mans got more than one "once in a lifetime" old dog on his yard, he's doing something right. ;)

Why ask if you know the answer? I don't have to own a gamedog to know they are high energy, stubborn dogs that most people can't handle having primarily indoors ...especially if they weren't raised as a pet, which is what Minor was stressing earlier.

BB- your post was perfect! I agree 110%

By the sound of some of the replies here, many of you so called 'dogmen' are no better than the peta, hsus sentimentalists. Tripping over themselves to cull a cur (a dog that's probably done the best he could for you, given that particular dog's genetics) but as soon as some doggie gets a few wins and old and you're all respectful and teery eyed to get rid of it.

Man, just reading this thread, i was embarrassed.

If they don't contribute, then their time is up, no ifs or buts. After all they're just dogs, right?

Thanks for keeping it real MinorThreat.

Why is that? Because we have feelings for a dog that worked it's heart and soul out to please us? Or because we have the money and the space to keep more dogs that you? Or because we have free will to do whatever we want to with our dogs and that pisses you off?

I'm more embarrassed by people that claim true "game" dogs are fight crazy beasts that run their chains 24 hours a day, cannot be trusted around children (or most humans for that matter), and must be destroyed once their owner is through with them. IMO this sounds more like PETA propoganda than that mentioned above. [IMG]

While I found nothing wrong at all with Minor Threat's posts (yeah I'm a pet owner- I'm also an open-minded intelligent individual who has the ability to think logically with business sense.) ...yours is rather annoying.

"After all they're just dogs, right?" Cripes.

You don't have to be a sappy eyed pet owner to have a sense of honor for an animal that has served you. If you have the means, take care of the dog- if you don't, then do what you have to do. But coming off saying "they're just dogs" sounds like you have no respect or loyalty for the game you play.

To each his own. You MUST love these dogs if you want 100% out of them. You can take a cur that is your best friend and do great things with him JUST BECAUSE he loves you and knows you love him. He will die for you where if you shunned him and "just a dogged" him he wouldnt do SH!T for you. Ive seen it more than once. I LOVE my dogs, good ones and curs alike. Curs dont earn respect, so naturally they're "removed from the breeding program" but its never easy. Come to Florida with those hard assed methods. ;)YIS, D.

You could use a female to school too... why not? I personally feel that loyalty should go from owner to dog as it should from dog to owner. So, I like Simms answer to this question.

I personally enjoy having beautiful things around me. I would keep an unworkable animal around just to admire it's beauty... but that's just me.

if you had a hog dog that was also your house dog wouldnt it get the proper socialization

  12. I have to disagree about these dogs not being good pets. I have had game bred pits around me since I was born and so have my three kids, we have never had a problem. I now have a 16 year old female, who was a very accomplished hog hunter in her day, good enough to win 4 trophies, and she is now my house dog. I couldn't imagine finding a better house dog. I also know that Bellon Clubs CH Flame now lives with an older couple and their chihuahua who she for some reason gets along with great.

I think you're right i never had some real problems with my dogs and some i sold to friends as a pet.
But i've given them strickt rules on how they should live with a game-bred dog, because those dogs aren't for everybody and if they should break my rules, i would take that dog back.
Those dog's are now 9, 7 and 5 years old and never any problems.

if the dog has done his best for you, the least you can do is to take care of your dog they earned it.
