my boy west just turned five months now so its been about 3month that ive had him now he slimmed down to a nice size and looks real healthy thanks to your guys advice. Through browsin the board ive grown to respect the true apbt and am considering purchasing one. I know it will be alot of work with two pups but i plan to get West nuetered at 6months and do some kind of shows with the other pup. I am at home 5days a week and the other two I got to school ,I leave my grandmother strict feeding instructions with the food already portioned out when i am gone. I just have a question on how you think a female would get along with my boy West. I was also wondering if anyone had any info within driving distance of Los Angeles, Im willing to drive however on where i could get some pups. I like the look of Boudreaux stuff and some pups of El nEgro on garners site, Eli stuff looks good too. I got some questions on witch you guys prefer and reasons and some dogs of the top dogs off these lines. Thks for the help

What do you want the dog for? To show? If you havent owned a dog from game lines before I'd raise the one you have now while taking time to learn everything you need to know about the do's and don'ts of owning a game dog. Best of luck in your decision.

he's right about this. don't jump head first into the pool till you get your feet wet. and if you plan on showing, may i politely suggest starting with an am-satff. if you go out and grab yourself a game dog without the required experience, you might end up in a tight spot or heartbroken. if you have truly come to respect the breed as you say, then give it time. my suggestion is find someone who uses their dogs to hunt hogs and go on a hunt. then you might see a glimpse of the true apbt.

If you do purchase another pup. I really do advise you to learn as much informaton as possible. Introducing another pup can be difficult expierence, and i can confidently tell you that from my own experiences. No two situations are alike. Puppies are great, and i am currently thinking about obtaining another male to the family. However, i want improve upon my mistake of the past. So i really wanna keep doing my homework and be fully prepared before taking on that responsibility again. My intentions with new pup will be hopefully to show him. So that even requires more work. Also dont rush things, finding a quality puppy is an adventure in itself. Gather as much info as possible. Attending a couple shows would also be helpful. Best of luck to you.:)

first im going to answer your question..every dog is different and you wont know how they get along..till you try...now even two days a week is enough for trouble..dont write a check your grandmother cant cash..stick around..do the school thing dogs cost money..who knows a year from now you might learn alot from this site and choose a different bloodline..

  6. Solid advise so far...I agree with most of it. Also if showing is what you aspire to...frenchie gave good advise, but I'd also add that Amstaff people (in the AKC) especially have a lot to teach about showing, ring etiquette, etc. Now every registry shows different, but there is a lot of knowledge on breeding, culling, and showing from Amstaff people that bulldoggers usually ignore. A wealth of knowledge is a wealth of knowledge. Eitherway try to find a mentor that you can talk with face to face, and take your time. I also agree with the getting out on a hog hunt and finding venues to see well bred working dogs. Big difference.

That being said...you forgot to include pics with this update...I'm curious to see what changes have happened over the last couple of weeks.

I am gonna agree here with all the folks, this being your first time at the rodeo I will say you should hold off on getting a game-bred dog. Owning a dog from a working bloodline is not so easy, it takes special care and understanding of the breed in general and you are still learning that part. I think you should wait a couple years and see how your first one goes before you dive head first in something that you are not ready for.

Raising 2 pups at once is not easy either, that is very challanging all in it self never mind the fact that you want them both to be APBT's. Also leaving 2 pups with your grandmother could be more difficult for her aswell. Keep researching and keep working with the pup you have. You will know when it is time to get another dog and IMHO now is not the time. As far as bloodlines, its like ice cream, right now you like Rocky Road but in a year or two you might not like that flavor anymore and find that you perfer butterscotch.

After you know what your doing with the dog and what your plans are for the future then I would suggest finding the bloodline that excells in the tasks that you have in mind, til then love on your pup that you have now and learn from him as much as you can.
