80lbs Game Bred??

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by Scratch & Sniff, Dec 6, 2007.

1. I was looking at Texas Heat Kennels... http://texasheatkennel.tripod.com/
...and I see the dogs range from 60-90lbs!
These are Alligator bloodlines and have Lemaster's Tudor (his Grandson) and many more VERY GAME dogs. I am just shocked at how much they weigh and they don't look "bully" like Razor Edge type dogs.
They look like our dogs(most everyone here gamebred apbt's)

So my question is are they just taller and don't "show the weight" so much?
...and are these dogs from Texas Heat really these lines/game as they claim?

Puppy I see is selling for $2,500.00 dollars on their website...
...and other puppies range from 1k-2k!

What is up with this, anyone?

Thanks.

I dont see anything shocking about Alligator bred dogs being big catchweight animals

I heard of a catchweight show one night back before 1976 from this old man. Went 2 hours and both dogs expired. You can imagine with all that weight being slung around there is some damage being done. Game dogs though IMO. Two hours of trips to hells door and one side picked up. No one quit. Thats game to me.

yeah, Alligator dogs are almost always huge like that. 90lbs seems big, but I wouldnt be surprised. The dude I got my main male from had an outcrossed Alligator dog but she was 80lbs cw. Every other alligator Ive personally seen has been catch (65+)

7. lol yeah i know the dog.........but man they run it in the ground

8. we would then ALL be rich~~~~~~~~~

9. Yeah lol true @ rich.

I see, wow I was not aware "game lines" ran up that big.
I thought Mayday at 75lbs was huge for a game dog.

I am "shopping/researching" would anyone recommend a LARGE game dog like this?
Are they as high driven and long winded
as the more traditional weight game dogs (35-55 lbs etc)?

I ask because they almost seem to be breeding for SIZE, they post the weights and talk about how BIG the pups should be and how big the heads and chest and bones are... "alligator blood at its best".

He should mature out at 65-70 + lbs.
He has a big head, thick bone structure, we are very
impressed with this pup, and cant wait till he matures!

Alligator blood doesnt come any better than this!!!!

^Example of Texas Heat describing this Oso Negro puppy of theirs.

Thanks!

Ya, seems like the whole breeding for size thing. Great think bones, big head, big chest, blah blah blah. If they're trying to change the breed rather than improve it, just another poor breeder out for cash.

lol. Man, they were really done breeding for quite a while. I guess quite a while means not constantly having a litter on the ground for sale.

there was a time and a fad for big dogs as the fad for blue dogs..some people got stuck in the fad..wilder,sarona,hemphill,and others throw out big dogs...even mayday was a big dog...some are good accidents some are bred for money..my opinion other than mayday most are short winded..if they dont get the hog in the first half hour they wont..

Yea, you are right Lockjaw, there is always some bloodline or some color, that is the "in" thing.

I must also concur w/ your obervations about big dogs. I have owned both big dogs & small dogs & in my particular case have found big dogs to be much shorter winded.

If someone like small dogs and has a yard of only small dogs of like blood are they not breeding for size? To keep them at said weight….

When did it become wrong to like big dogs, and perfectly fine to like small traditional ones? and when did it become wrong to keep dogs that just happen to be Big of like breeding?

If they can catch a hogg who cares? Just because something isn’t traditional doesn’t mean that it’s wrong.

If anything physical takes precedence over a good hogg dog then your breeding for something other than a good hogg dog, no matter what the size color shape etc.

They like that blood, they are the ones feeding them, If someone knows that these said dogs are not what they appear to be then someone should speak up, to the Q asked.

To many people in other peoples business and judging over silly things.

Nothing wrong with saying these are healthy sturdy hardy dogs… witch is how I took with what they said.

No, you are breeding a family that by happenstand rusn small or big. Other kennels choose adding or reducing size as one of their main priorities (if not main). Those who choose to run different size dogs for weight pulling competition will either have a yard full of different lines or cross extremes from PROVEN stock.

It is not wrong to like big or small. IT IS wrong to choose an APBT solely or mainly on size. Size is not what makes an APBT. I am sure you know what is required to qualify for true-to-standard.

The issue is not even caring about their hog catching ability. This is what is being addressed here.

agreed.

Sure, it is perfectly fine to like a bloodline. it is not correct to sell pups on the skirt of a bloodline. It is very hard to get quality dogs and extremely easy to ruin a family. If you do not have your eye in the right direction, you are going the wrong way.....i like that one...lol.....that is my new proverb.:D

They are decent dogs, as they state "true to type Alligator dogs". Not my cup of tea (entirely too large), but I hear tale they are impressive animals.

what a load of crapp . alligator dogs are just like any other line of dogs . there are some big ones and some small ones i have had them from 29 pounds to 57 pounds on the chain . some of the biggest game dogs i have seen were mayday dogs but i have also seen a great 65 pound jeep redboy dog and alot of the good eli dog are the bigger ones as far as i have sen anyways.
