If you're dog's on a leash & the other dog is off leash, it will be the owner of the other dog at fault if something happens. If it goes all the way to court, that's what the judge will say. However, there would probably be a lot of negative publicity though. The issue you need to think about is your dogs safety as well. One day a bigger, badder dog will come along (yes they do exist;) ) & could possibly hurt your dog. While we know our dogs will defend us if necessary, there is only so much they can do. If a pack of 5 large dogs jumps you & your dog, you have to think realistically. Although I believe it is everyone's right to walk their own dog (on a leash of course) down their own street, but sometimes shit happens & you can't. I have the same problem, but it's the little dogs that everyone lets run loose. As for the people-biting problem, you better have damn good evidence or be very convincing that someone was trying to harm you for you to not be held liable.

All I know is that I am the only one in my neighborhood that has gone to court over dogs running loose.... prob cuz they are vicious blood thirsty pit bulls... but....

I'm 100% behind Blitz on this one. Joe, you have some learning to do. If you don't start using your head, you're not only going to lose your dog, but you might even be the reason that other owners of this breed in your area lose their dogs as well.

I'll say to you what I said to the other guy with this "problem":
    http://www.game-dog.com/forums/showthread.php?p=25832#post25832

The only difference is, because you display a whole other level of ignorance, I feel the urge to flame. You're flirting with disaster, Joe. Dumbasses like you are the precise reason that this breed was outlawed in the last town I lived. You seem like the type who use these dogs as accessories to your "tough guy" image. You go around fighting with people and stabbing dogs... all the while parading your "pit" around with this "don't mess with me" attitude. You are my enemy, Joe. You have no idea what these dogs are about; no idea what it is that makes this breed so great. How many times you been locked up, Joe? Not that I have anything against criminals owning these dogs, as long as they're responsible. You take your "biting" dog to places where "dumb" little kids are present - oh, forgive me, you don't do that anymore. To take your admitted people-aggressive dog to a park around little kids in the first place is an act of utter stupidity. So your boy went "right after" that big mastiff, huh? Wow, you have a special dog there. How did it make you feel when he clamped down on that big cur? Pretty proud, yeah?
"... That Big Dog Took Off Running. He Sure Did Cure Him Out. Lol."

    Yeah...lol.

I'm not normally one to make insults, Joe, but in this case I just can't help myself. You are a detriment to this breed, which I so love. I have a strong feeling that I'll be reading about you and your dog in the news someday. Right under the "Pitbull Attacks..." headlines.

If I am wrong, someone please point it out to me.

BTW, Joe, if you feel the need to grow up and educate yourself about this breed; decide to take a little more responsibility with your dog, then I have your back. But if your idea of education is "If my dog beats the **** out of another dog that is off-leash in a public area, can I get in trouble?" Then go blow yourself, Bazooka. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Sorry, my head hurts from trying to decifer all this gibberish. Be responsible! If you know your dog is aggressive towards other dogs then you probably shouldn't bring it to the dog park or whatever. It's probably a little late for socialization. Walk him at night. That's what I do.
As far as breeding a "talented" dog with no known pedigree, please don't. Not just because he doesn't have papers or whatever, it's just you're a complete friggin' moron. I'm just basing that on what you have "written" and what I've tried so very hard to read. I am not insulting you as a person.

    Rockstar, you deserve a beer.

Okay, Joe. Maybe I responded a bit overzealously. If you're the same Joe that I'm familiar with, then I have to at least respect your willingness to learn. I didn't think you were the same guy. The Joe I'm familiar with seems to have a pretty decent grasp on this breed. Much more knowledgeable than many 18-19 year-olds I know. Why then, with the knowledge and understanding that you have proven you have, why are you walking your dog among legions of strays without a breaking stick? You should know better, Bro. You have the potential to be a role model for all the other punks in your neighborhood who let their mutts run loose - who I'm certain do not possess the knowledge of these dogs that you've developed over the past few years. Why, knowing what you know, would you repeatedly walk your dog in such a hostile environment anyway? Seems you should know better, Bro. Oh, sure, you have every right to walk your dog, but there must be better areas. It's also pretty unneccessary to have to stab another dog to keep it from harrassing yours. A can of pepper spray can usually be a pretty good deterrent. It's damned easy for the owner of an unleashed dog to slap a leash on before the cops arrive, and say that your dog was the aggressor. It happens, Joe. You might be surprised at the lengths some people will go through to shift some blame. I keep my dogs under the watch of home security cameras because of the lies people tell. There was an instance where an animal control officer actually said she saw one of my dogs running the streets - saw it with her own eyes. Slapped me with a 450-dollar citation. Luckily, I could prove otherwise, but often it is just your word against theirs. Unfortunately, in cases as these, the bulldog is usually found to be at fault. It's just the reality we live in, Bro. You can't be too careful. I don't want to hear about you losing your dog because of some lying piece-of-garbage neighbor. You have to live under the assumption that if something bad happens, you'll likely be the only one telling the truth.
Good luck to you, Joe. Continue to learn all you can and never become satisfied with what you know. Share the knowledge you learn with your peers, and maybe you'll make a fine ambassador for this breed one day.
And for chrissakes, get a breaking stick, will ya? lol

    Peace.

"By allowing your dog to constantly be attacked by strays you are showing your dog that you are an inadequate alpha, and completely uncapable of keeping your dog out of bad situations. Your dog is going to realize that you are not a good pack leader and your dog is going to become nervous, anxious, and always on edge because of your poor leadership ability. Now, this may or may not result in your dog becoming a fear biter, but it definately does not look good, and if your dog does become a fear biter, not only will it be a danger to other animals, but more than likely humans also. I would advise that you start acting like a responsible owner and stop allowing this to happen, or else you are going to end up losing your dog."

Gonna have to agree with Blitz- I did'nt say we were friends, jus that I agree...

"What Yall Thoughs On Breedin To A Talented Dog That Dosen't Have Papers Or Is From And Is From And Unknow Back Ground As In Not Knowing His Bloodline?"

    no thanks...

Joe, could ya find a local football field, track, park, hell anywhere besides where you are walking him now? I'm not telling you were you live, cause Idunno, nor do I care. I'm sure if you put your head to it you could find another place, or are you to stubborn and hotheaded like your dog?

Damn Blitz I hate to admit it, but I agree with all you said here...lol...This kind of shit is gonna seal the end of legally owning our dogs. There are other methods for keeping those who wish to steal your dog away from them....

i mmight of missed a few threads .....
but if you muzzled your PIT BULL, and carried a nice big walking stick, 1 with a nice big handle, just to give the other dog a little whack on the head.. it could save your dog from being taken away from you .
the last thing you want is another dog fight .......who will be to blame ?? the pit or the poodle.
if your dog is muzzled , your dog CANT GET THE BLAME

  16. Crash97

    Crash97 Top Dog

I see your point, but a pit walking around with a muzzle is only gonna add to the "viscious pitbull" theory. Why else would one put a muzzle on a dog? It's a rotten situation all the way around.

I believe the best all around answer is a treadmill. Dog isn't in public eye or scrutiny, won't encounter any local mean dogs, and the more people who have a mill the less the "mills are for dog-fighters" shit will appear lucid. IMHO. If many people have mills and sticks, it'll kill the idiotic propaganda spewed out by the Humaniacs and their like.

i understand why you shouldn't walk your dog if you have dogs running loose or people trying to take your dog in a certain area, but why should pitbull owners be limited to the things they can do with their dogs just because of a few stupid people and stupid owners? why not get on the police and the spca for not doing their job? yes, you should avoid situations that could get you or your dog in trouble, but don't just alter your lifestyle because you think there isn't another way. it only takes one person to make a difference. and if that doesn't work then get everyone that wants to walk their dog but don't feel safe doing it to help you crack down on the ones that's not doing their job. it doesn't matter where you live with enough people things will change.

Even though you all are right that much of the time, the owner of the unleashed dog is at fault, in many states/cities, dog bites are strict liability, which means even if your dog is leashed and causes damage to a person or property (the law sees dogs as property), you are screwed. This can happen even in someone trespasses on your own property and gets bit! And it's even worse in many places with BSL - your dog is toast after a bite incident if it wasn't before. Do anything you must to make sure your dog doesn't bite a person or another dog.
