I feel this is proof that Staffs were gamedogs, yet though generations of ignorant culling by people not knowing what they are doing, we have reached a point by the 70s-80s where AmStaffs basically turned into a Shell of an APBT

It might look like a duck and it might quack like a duck, but that thing will drown in the lake!

If you go 8 generations back he ties right into GR CH Frisco Sport 10xW which is one of the dogs I mentioned in the other thread. Also 5 generations back he ties into Colby's Tige and also Colby's Pincher.

I wouldn't exactly classify this dogs as an AST either, he is alot further behind in AST of today. JMHO

    Nice find

Thats a Pit dog remember back then The UKC wasnt the same and game bred dogs could be registered with them and they had their own sanction matches . The dog was a APBT not a Staff and if you go back far enough as most of you know all that Ruffian stuff goes right back to Tudors BlackJack .

Its possible he might have been registered as one but I haven't seen it listed. Alot of old time dogs were triple registered back in the day but most got out of the AKC style of dogs and stayed true to the heritage of these dogs. I would never call Black Jack a Amstaff even if he was ever registered with the AKC.

Patrick's Goldie, dam of Red Baby, goes back to 2nd and 3rd generation Am Stafs AKC Ch. Tacoma All-a-Blaze and Tacoma Sure Fire, who go back to Tacoma Jack. Behind All-a-Blaze and Sure Fire is Corvino's Braddock.

There was no such thing as staff back in Tudors BlackJack's day remember the Amstaff is the watered down show version of a APBT . The split came in the late 30's early 40's when the AKC wanted to go another route , The UKC at the time kept in the game dogs as seen in Bloodlines magazine well into the 60's . another tid bit the Colbys helped write the strandard for the Staffordshire Bull terrier .

American Pit Bull Terriers were registered with the AKC as early as 1898 -ish ( turn of he century ) The name American Staffordshire terrier was not adopted as of yet however that doesn't take away the fact that they were shown in the AKC way back when.

Most people today associate the the letters AKC to the American Staffordshire terrier so its just simantics. So it is very possible for BlackJack to have been registered with the AKC even though he was a game bred dog.

And yes the Colby family had a hand in the AKC show standard with the use of Primo as the model dog for the AST's conformation.

Not to dig an old threat up but certain amstaffs, such as hughzee and watchdog, originally did have match dogs. They were definitely show dogs, but they were also kept true and were used as an all around working dog, from catchdogs to match dogs. There were quite a few 1 and 2 xw amstaffs of the hughzee watchdog strains.

It's a bit like doing a story on a British Bulldog of 150 years ago actually catching bulls and comparing it with a modern British Bulldog. It doesn't seem to take many generations to ruin a breed when you stop using it for it's original purpose. Not that I'm telling people anything they already don't know but even amongst the APBT's it's a small % that are the real deal these days.
