  1. Hello everyone,
I purchased an apbt puppy at 8 weeks from a breeder. The following was part of the description of my pup "ADBA pups 4x's Bozack (redboy)" I was wondering exactly what all of that means? I know American Dog Breeders Association, and I've an idea Redboy is a line of pits? But what about the rest of it?
Also- when I picked up my pup, I assumed it was registered due to the breeder's use of the word ADBA ... I of course was so excited I totally forgot to ask the breeder about it at time of pick up. So I contacted them later about it and they said the pups were pure- but they sold them at a lower price so they didn't have to do the papers. They were only planning on registering the one puppy that they kept. They said the pup CAN be registered tho- for an additional cost- which is fine w/ me- but they asked me to make the offer on how much I am willing to pay extra. I have no idea how much it costs to reg. one pup w/ the abda or how much work is involved. What would you all say is a fair offer? Also, how can I find out if this breeder is legit w/ the abda. Maybe im just paranoid, but im a bit afraid I'll send them money and still not get any papers.
Yes I'll admit- this pup was a total impulse buy- I should have put more thought into getting a puppy- but she is wonderful and I feel I am dedicated to her for life now. I want to do adba weight pull w/ her and I need to have her papers (or be spayed- but I'm not a firm believer in the spay/neuter.)
Thanks for any advice/input you can give.

I sure hope you trust that breeder. That sounds like bullshit to me. I could say I found 4x jeep pups in the first two and you would not know any better. Why would they not litter reg those pups. And I would have him fill out a form and send it in NOW you may be shocked at what you have.

It cost very little money to register a litter of puppies. It is $10 for the registration and $2 per pup. It's not very expensive to do the paperwork.
If you do ADBA weight pull they need to be registered and intact. You should not have to pay much more to get your paperwork. still it sounds a little off....

  11. They should charge you the cost of a stamp and 5 cents for their time to complete and sign the form. It sounds to me they saw your newbie self as a source of quick income. If I was you, I would get my money back and return the pup. Who knows what else they told you with the intention to deceive.

Hartnnugget you should get the paper work done as soon as possible if he's legit, im going throu the same thing but it's with UKC papers and i offered to pay for the whole litter paper work i know it's crazy but i think it's payment enough.

  13. Thanks so much everyone for all the helpful info and input!! I talked to the breeder today... Hopefully everything will work out and I will get the papers. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm keeping fingers crossed!
In hindsight- I never should have purchased this dog. I should have taken more time and planned carefully and chosen a more upstanding breeder who has his stuff in order (papers should have come w/ the dog that day!) I was impressed by the care and socialization and health of the puppy and I just jumped.
Taking her back is really not an option at this point. My family has had her a month and we are so attached to her. My personal feelings are that I chose this puppy, bought her, and therefore she is my responsibility for life. She loves us. And she is a great pup- at 3 months already housebroken and crate trained- were working on the whole leash thing...lol..
I want to do weight pull with her because that is what her ancestors supposedly did. She has high drive and energy and I know it will need to be directed somewhere. This is my first time raising a puppy and I just want to do right by her.
Thanks again everyone! I'm amazed by the helpfulness, great advice, and lack of judgemental jerks on this board.. its refreshing!

Well you bought a pet. Enjoy her and love her. This is an old statement around here but papers don't make the dog. There are pulling organizations that don't require papers and most fun shows don't either.

  15. Thats great to know- can you possibly suggest some orgs, groups, etc that I can join w/ her? I know she is young yet but I'd like to go and watch and learn all I can. Im in North NJ. Thanks!
