Breeding

Discussion in 'Dog Discussion' started by FloridaNation_1, Mar 22, 2009.

  1. Just curious:rolleyes:.... I have a friend with a female that is really dominant compared to his male. He has been trying to breed them for about 3 heat cycle now. He tried to assist with it still no luck. I told him that maybe he should look at another alpha male and go with the fee because his male will never mate with her if all he wants to do is play.

I told him maybe because they grew up together from pups or maybe the male is still to young and not really comfortable with the environment and process since he mounts and the minute she turns he bolts off

its comedy ever heat cycle with them

first off, which is the problem? Does the male only want to play? Or is she too dominant and won't let him mount?
If she's too aggressive, then she could be muzzled and controlled, or set up in a stand. If using a stand then male needs to be out of sight so her mind is not on him at all, then bring in male.
If all he wants to do with a bitch in heat is play, lol, that's a whole different ballgame. Some people here won't agree with me, but if that's the case, it's known as low sex drive and it WILL be transmitted to male offspring, maybe not all but some, and the one's who don't get it will be carriers. If he is suffering from that he needs to be neutered.Show dog people get around this by doing AI, and they end up with pups with the same problem.
Some males needs to be assisted the first time around, but very little. A correct dog should know what to do all by himself.Call me old-school, but that's the way I see it.I have never had a male that I used for stud that ever needed to be helped.I have had females that wanted to tear their asses up, but never a male that wanted to fight back, only one thing on their minds:D - that's a man for ya.
Now to your last statement, maybe he's too young???What's up with that?Is he still a pup?By pup I mean under two yrs old. I know of and have heard of some dogs bred under two, but very few and they were remarkable dogs not your everyday specimen. I may be wrong, but maybe you and your friend oughtta wait a little, do some research, talk to people and maybe witness a breeding before you try it.

  3. LOL he has more experience than me.He just last year put a litter on the ground, but since then he was gotten rid of the game dogs and started over with bullies:( Like you said maybe he is to young but once I saw a male at 9months try and take care of business the first time around. The male just hit two years of age he looks nice and all, but yeah its that playing part which is mostly what he want to do and yes he is from a show line as well. This is the reason I dont deal with bullies my redboy/snoopy male would wimper all day and night most of the time I would feed him boil hamburger meat and double up the food cause he would lose weight when my females came into heat amazing he knew way before we even saw blood but thanks for the feedback I have heard of stuff for dogs to help out sperm up and LOL dont bash me but 2 viagra pills.:D

in my honest opinion i think you should forget about breeding at all, it sounds like your dog is to young and inexperianced as are you. now i just know your going to come back at me for that one, but hey thats the way i see it and for you to be asking this question on a forum, as much as id like to be helpful just tells me what i have stated above.
a little harsh you may think but look around, do you wanna contribute to todays problems, or do you wanna help. i think you should do some more reading, especially some of the topics on this forum and have a really good think about things.;)

Maybe it is just nature's way of saying that this breeding shouldn't happen.

Just wondering, what have either of these dogs done/accomplished to show that they are worthy of breeding?
Do either of them have any championships, titles, awards, certifications, etc?
Has your friend done any health testing on either of these dogs?
If the answers are no, please advise your friend to spay/neuter his pets and leave the breeding up to those that are breeding for the betterment of our dogs. There are plenty of "cute puppies" available at your local animal shelter.

Those are good books but mostly just history. Try The Pit Bull Bible if you really want to learn something.

you come on here and ask a newbie question, get defensive and counter w/ what have you produced? nobody is braggin what theyve produced, but at least you could take some advice for your "buddy" without getting all nasty. this forum will help ya alot(ive learned plenty), but you gotta have thicker skin than that man

Since you new I will skip the "your friends should be breeding' lecture and answer your question.
I would either use a breeding stand or just hold the bitch so she can be bred. Sometimes on over excited males you have to "help him find the mark". Or you could just do an AI. AI kits are cheap online or on ebay. All you really need is a sterile syringe, condoms (duh, no spermicide), and a pipette.

If the dog is 9 months old he is just probably too young to breed.
