since Dimitri has passed away, the torch has been passed to Kearney for round up duty. so we have begun the first phases of his training.
step 1: courage assesment and boundary training.

first we have to see what he thinks of the cows, up close and personal. so i made a chainspot near the fence for him. he passed the "lack of fear" test. next was understanding boundaries- the yard is his, the pasture is the cows. keep things like that and he will never need to go into service...but that is not always the case.
the Ol' Timer almost got called out of retirement friday evening...

thanks guys. yeah-lots of work ahead. Kearney will be 12 months old next month, hence the start of his work training ( slow and steady is my M.O) but he is a good dog- a bit goofy if anything. i think he should do ok. it will be atleast another 6 months before he is allowed any off leash work ( long lead atleast until 18 months old)

  6. good luck. He should work out real good...did he get mentored by the older dog at all?

Also, I saw the vid, and I thought you were starting him on catching those birds at first lol. Good looking pup.

no, the torch had only recently been passed to Dimitri- he had been working ~on his own~ for only about 6 months, Bishop retired ( 12 years old)
and the Guineas are his ~constant training tools~ he wants one soooo bad! the worst part is -they know it and will taunt him. if they werent so good at their jobs, one morning i would put a longer chain on that spot...suprise!!! haha
