For me The 4th of July is time to be proud of my country more so then the troops. I deffinatly am proud of the troops, and know I wouldn't have this country without them I just give them their day or days of respect on Veterans day and Patriots day (a Boston Holiday). God bless America!

While you are out celebrating this weekend the freedoms that we, as Americans take for granted everyday, please take some time to remember why we have these freedoms. Remember that we have more freedoms here than any other nation. Please think about our Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors that are working hard to keep our country SAFE and FREE. Our deployed military men and women will not get to see fireworks, or their families/friends. They will be lucky if a USO or MWR show happens to come to the FOB they are on and they happen to be able to attend it. They also have to know that the enemy knows what our nation's holidays are, and they have been known to attack harder these days.

"give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, i lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

this is part of the inscription on the Statue of Liberty

It reminds me that rights and freedom are fought for and can be taken away in an instant if we are not vigilant and protect them.

I grew up in a family with mixed feelings about the military. My grandfather was a Col. in the A.F. and while I didn't know him well (he and my father didn't get along so well), he was a respectable man.

Both my parent's raised me fairly, you worked for what you got but I never lacked anything either. I never considered joining the military, for a long time I couldn't understand why someone would want to join, why someone would want to go through all that hardship, put themselves on the line for people who don't know them and a society that a lot of times takes them for granted.

Over time and growing up, I've come to respect those that do and while I'll never fully understand, I'm thankful for the people who aren't as cynical as I can be, because without them I wouldn't be able to think that way or do the things that I do everyday.

Holidays such as the 4th remind me that life really isn't to bad. If you can sit out and watch fireworks with your family, your dogs, or friends..you really don't have anything you can complain about. Life could be so much worse and be thankful for the little things.

To me it is a day of reflection, and great thanks. It is a day that has been set aside to remember trials, and tribulations that this country has been through, and a day for giving thanks that we still live in the great nation of the United States. It is a day to thank our troops in the armed forces, and hold them high where they deserve to be held everyday. This day is about as american as you can get, and god damnit I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN.

How about we worry about our own tired, poor, and huddled masses?
