Some times I like to check in and get a member update as my dog gets older
Some members say a mix , some people I meet say Pit-bull mastiff
Some say APBT and tell me many people don’t really know what they look like
He is 70 pounds 9 months

What I learned here on game-dog is that it can be anything unless you have a ped for it. He looks beautiful though, built like a tank:)

He COULD be anything.... He MIGHT not even have A(p)Bull Terrier blood in him.....

However, if were going off looks and looks alone, for we really don't know, but TO ME he LOOKS like a Mayday/Bobby Hall type dog...... But that's just going off these two photos....

    He's 70lbs CUZ HE'S FAT!!!

No way to tell,I wouldn't necessarily go on his weight because he doesn't look like he's missed to many meals.I have a big pup that's pretty good sized and I know he ain't ain't a mastiff mix. Some dogs just get a little on the large side, some don't.Get him in good shape and see what he weighs. But like i said, there's really know way I know of to tell what he is exactly. If I liked him I wouldn't even worry about it,just enjoy him and feed him until he dies.

You could get the DNA testing done where they tell you what breed or breeds your dog is, but it's a little on the pricey side (I think like $125 or so) and it's not always super accurate...

I've heard those DNA tests aren't accurate AT ALL. Someone with a real APBT tried it out, just to see, and was told a whole bunch of crazy sh!t. Border collie, hound, etc.

He does look out of shape, though. I doubt he *should* weigh 70 lbs. . .

Handsome dog, I agree no way of knowing unless you were there or the breeder is 100% honest.

I would cut the dogs feed back, I too agree that he is a tad too thick. A dog that is over fed can have physical problems down the line, better to be safe than sorry.

This is an important wonder to me, see I realize he has some / well a layer of fat But what could a dog like him get down to 55 pounds 60 65 ? Or is it that 65 70 would be fine but he should have a bit more mussel definition , I feed him kind of light actually a combination of EVO and Holistic health lamb I run him with my bike once a week and wile he is not fast he still has some wind wile he is running.
To answer some, yes I don’t care what he is, might be, I am not being biased He is a quite dog very easy to live with, house broken, loves kids, friendly to people and protective in a very calm way. I have seen a side to him that will end debates as to what he is .

Well all I say is if you are happy with him enjoy him and take good care of him. That leaves nothing to prove to anyone...........

I know this is kinda a long shot, but I actually used to work with someone that had a dog that looked extremely similar, it was a yellow lab/rottweiler mix. It was from "accidental" litter her sis's rott had. His name was Fathead, and he, as an adult was about 110 lbs.

To answer the question about what size he could get down to,just cut his feed back a little and work his tail off until he he gets in good condition. You'll know good condition when you see it,don't even look at the scale. Then weigh him in good shape and you'll know his true ideal weight.Chain weight is always going to be a little heavier than conditioned weight but it's not going to be that much heavier.I actually have a bigger than average APBT myself,he hits about 64 on the chain. When he was sick he weighed 56 at the vet with his ribs and backbone showing(he quit eating for awhile)He's 15 months old,not fat but conditioned he probably be 60-61 pounds.I try not to keep my dogs overly heavy.I'd post a pic if I knew how to give you an idea. He's a tall, long legged dog with a big frame and I can get him down to 60 pretty easy. But I wouldn't worry about what he weighs as much as I would what condition he's in.He'll just weigh whatever he's supposed to.

Cut back on the feed and increase his run/ walks to more than once a week. He is still young and not fully developed so you have to work with what you can and that is plain and simple walking. Once his bones are fully matured then you can add weights and other strenuousactivities into your exercise program.

    Good luck
