AMEN! had to learn that the hard way. we took some stupid ass advice from someone we trusted instead of doing it the way we always have. the end result was not good.

btw giving the dam too much calcium is bad for the puppies also. sounds contradictive but it's true.

so what is the current, recommended bag to feed your pregnant bitch theses days?
If its not Purina, (i think it was recommended because of the protein content, as far as i can remember anyway!)

But like you guys say there is better feed to be fed. What works for you guys?

I use Kirkland food from Costco. You cannot beat the price an quaility of the feed but I know you may not have that in Canada. There are many good diets to chose from and if I did not feed Kirkland it would be Pro Plan or I would just spend the money and go grain free like taste of the wild.

I currently feed Kirkland Super Premium Lamb, its like $38-45 a bag from Costco.
but was looking in to the Raw diets the last few months , and found it a bit intimidating at first. But kind of getting an idea, every one has a different recipe they recommended feeding:eek:! So I've done Kibble and venison cuts.

I have a buddy that used to always feed his pregnant bitches BilJac puppy and buttermilk, and they all looked and did great with their litters. I, like many others that have commented, switch my bitches to puppy food during the pregnancy and during the whelping stages.

May I please suggest doing a lot of research, like, at least a year of heavy research before going to a raw diet. There is a lot to know, and I have personally seen some great dogs ruined by improper nutrition.

Now, with that said, I am going to address the debate on kibble in here. Purina, and anything made by them, including ProPlan, pure and simple is just plain crap. All those foods are are fillers. They don't even state where all their animal products come from, they say "meat this" or "animal that" which pretty much means, ANY ANIMAL could have been used for that ingredient. BilJac is not any better. As far as low priced quality foods, your best bet would be the Diamond Naturals or Kirkland foods, they are they highest quality foods for the money you can get for cheap. Granted they arent' the BEST out there, but they are a hell of a lot better than Purina, Pedigree, Iams, Eukanuba and Science Diet.
