I heard that when u put PB in a kong, that ur supposed 2 freeze it if u want it 2 last longer. I personally wedge treats in the kong.

RAW rib bones are ok, but I'd keep em away from over anxious pups. During hunting season, I feed raw deer to the dogs, and get whole rib cages from my butcher that I give to the dogs, never had a problem.

There is ALOT of good nutrients in bone marrow, which is a benefit of feeding some bones, ya just gotta use your head a bit and know what is ok and what is not.

so if i get one of those huge bones (real bone i guess cow) is that ok, i gave her one before the vet said it was fine she loved it, it never cracked into small pieces she just scrapes it till its gone, it did turn her poop bright white though, but it returned to normal. and i really have no idea whether she passed the wing bone, it was cooked, and she swallowed it whole, she is eating and pooping just fine and everything appears to be normal so i will keep an eye on her but i think it is ok, she prob passed it and i picked it up and didn't even know it. the kong doesn't matter she hates it, and thanks again for all the advice.

  10. If you use Kong's make sure you use the big black ones. they are a little harder than the red. The kong company will normally send a new one if your dog tears it up. My dogs love them. Kong has sent me 6 free ones in the past year. But you do have to keep an eye on them.

The black ones are the only ones I ever bought. And some dogs didn't ever touch them, but the ones that did - well, those Kongs didn't last long. And I personally don't care if the company will send me a new one - I don't want my dog dying because of a piece of rubber gets lodged inside him. Best just to avoid the possibility all together, IMO.

thats a benefit of the BARF diet, waste will turn white and flake away, leaving less shit to clean :D

I'd be careful of those large bones, they are hard since they have been cooked/boiled so they can sometimes chip or break your dogs teeth. Any RAW bones are generally ok (unless choking size), i'd just trim excess fat off so you dont get any GI (stomach) upset if your dog isn't use to eating them.

The "stew" knuckle bones and thigh bones work very well. My friend is a butcher and he gives me a huge bag of raw frozen cow bones every few months. I keep it in my spare freezer for the dogs. They LOVE those bones. Although I get it for free, you could probably talk to a local butcher and get a bag like that for really cheap. Just as everyone said above, don't feed petstore bones or cooked bones. Those might be great for little dogs that need to chew on them for months and months to get little flakes off but our bulldogs just crunch those things up and it is not good for them.

Just make sure, if there is still meat left on them if you get them raw, and she is is your house dog, that you clean up any scraps or pieces she might leave behind from her chewing or otherwise you will wonder what that rotting meat smell is a day or two later! Had it happen, lol, so I know..;)
