i ve had a trapper style, and i wasnt overly impressed with the steel quality. imo too much chromium which does make it rust resistant, but dulls faster and more difficult to resharpen. by a case if ya want a flashy collector knife, and buy a benchmade if ya want one to punish

and now im buying up some older ones LOL

i ve been carrying benchmade knives for more than ten years now, and they dont wear out, you just buy another.:) its one of those things where ya get what ya pay for. my latest passion in knives is the Chris Reeve line. i only have one, but its a one piece survival knife that is a tough SOB

I love Benchmade knives myself, I have been carrying a Kershaw for almost 5 years it is a nice relatively cheap knife. The date stamped on it is May of '05. Holds its blade nice and is built tough.

I've been eying the Coldsteel products for a time now........any opinions on their knives. I've always liked the tanto style blade fixed or folder.

Cold Steel is a good knife, ive wanted a Trailmaster bowie for years. The demand exceeds the supply evidently, I rarely see them at the gun shows.

I like Cold Steel knive alot too,my brother has a Cold Steel Recon Scout and it's a tough knife,I really like it.I've been wanting to get a Cold Steel Kukri but the good ones are really expensive.Maybe I'll get a Recon Tanto,it's cheaper.

Ill tell ya a REALLY brutally tough one is the Becker Knife and Tool brand. BK&T was owned by Camillus at one time, but now they are made by Ka bar. I bought the model called the Campanion with a 6" blade, and its completely coated with a baked on finish due to the high carbon content will rust easy, but it gets shaving sharp very easy and will hold an edge forever. It is my main kitchen knife, but is a solid piece of steel from tip to tip, and you could pry a door open with this thing its so thick and stout. If you can find one snatch it up, as alot of them are being bought up and sent to the troops. Hopefully Ka bar can produce them at a faster rate and maintain quality.
