i agree with you the other post ive posted i was trying to get this point across

  2. IMO, the APBT is one of the most over looked working breeds in the USA. I have belonged to a German Shepherd club for close to 20 years. I have worked and trained with some of best working dog people in the country. I also buy dogs that have potential, and started them in narcotics detection. I find it very hard to find working herders, unless you want to spend big bucks. You can go to the local pound or humane society, and just pull a pitbull out of a kennel, and test them; they will blow most your European herding breeds away. Especially in the nerve and prey drive department. The intense prey drive that the pitbull carries, makes them trainable for just about anything.

Of course, hard core herding people will disagree with me, because they do not want to admit it. IMO, the APBT is both a working and sporting breed. However, originally they were a sporting breed. I also do not beleive that the APBT should be used, or bred for personal protection.
p.s. Yes, there are other breeds supposedly bred for fighting, however, they all pale in comparison to the APBT in gameness and heart. .

l thought that the original question is..........."WAS THE PIT BULL BRED TO BE A WORKING DOG"...........no! not in the late 1800's it wasn't, but yes! today it's a very popular working breed.l personaly would call a dog bred to fight a sporting breed if l realy had to.l would also call a cattle, hog, sheepdog, weight
    puller etc....a working dog.
But that means l've read all the wrong books.JMO :D

wouldnt call a weight pull dog a worker unless say a huskie. Id call a weight pulling exercise.

Work imo should be a task to make a job easier for man or a purpose task.

cattle hearder would be a hearding dog like in the show ring they split them up so the what it boils down to is what is your opinion on work and how the dogs should be grouped

I thought they were first and foremost bred to be mans best friend, then second to be domesticated canines worst enemy. And no matter how great they are in combat, imo their ALWAYS better at their first job... :p
