You know what they say "Ignorance is bliss".

But please don't jump to such stereotyped conclusions, That is right up there with saying all bulldogs are going to turn on you or attack all the children it sees because they are so "crazy" and "aggressive".

Nothing wrong with putting a chain on your dog as long as it is within reason, There is nothing wrong with chaining your dog on your property as long as it is within reason, And as far as picking a pup up by the scruff of the neck there is no harm in that either.

If you have any questions or do not understand something just ask us and we will help you all we can, But keep the smart answers and questions to a minimum...;)

The use of chains in proper settings, which I'd have to say almost all of our members are capable of doing, is one of the safest ways to contain our dogs. These dogs are, if research was done when you got into this breed, bred for dog on dog combat and are, therefore, dog aggressive. It is true, there are dogs that are cold, but it's not always the norm and not typically sought after by those who enjoy the bulldog (APBT) in its true form.

Now, my dogs are obedience trained - every one in my home has obtained his or her Canine Good Citizenship (CGC), but does that mean I don't use tethering? Absolutely not. When my dogs go outside, they ARE tethered. Two of my four do not respect even a six foot privacy fence and will clear it if given the option or there's something good enough to try and get at - in the case of one, another dog.

I think you need to do your research a bit more on this breed and realize that what a good many folks want to make these dogs into isn't what they were bred for. Yes, they can be phenomenal house dogs but not every dog is cut to live in the house and, when done humanely and correctly, chaining is a very good way of containing a dog of any breed.

Please remember, this site does not condone dog fighting and does expect its members to follow the same guidelines in regards to the law. You will run into those who disagree with the law, but that is something that is a matter of personal opinion and not shared by every individual on this board.

bobby and agk hit it on the head here. Dogs are property, it is up to the individual owner on how they decide to care or not care for that property.

Why would you have an APBT off leashed when you are not home? They could chase an animal. Then, end up on the road from chasing it and could get hit by a car. Or they could chase an animal and get lost. Or they will attack someones dog while they are loose...They are selectively bred dogs bred for gameness in the sport dogfighting. What part dont you understand? I guess you find it appropriate to have your dogs not on a leash while you are at work because you own a mutt and a petbull. But have you ever heard of BSL? Why take the chance. The general public are uneducated and think your dogs are actual pitbulls. When they arent. But your dogs actions will hurt others in your town. Get your dogs chained/crated!

And Link to thread with 50 lb chain? Oh wait. There is none, your just making it up.

So if the dog is chained, its from a dogfighter?

the thick collars and chains arent about ego, its about dogs that will hit the end of the chain until something gives. whatever you feed is fine with me, but my dogs wont just hang out in the yard together with some "training". thats not a realistic expectation. the more experience you get with this breed, youll see people with these setups, and they arent the ones hurting the breed, so dont be so quick to judge.

"Dogs are here for companionship" I can agree wit but here goes da killin part about dat... NOT EVERY BREED OF DOG.... We dealing wit a working dog so big chains and ruff play and grabbin by da scruff of the neck is nothin... Come on now....WTH???? They love it!!! When folks try to bottle up wat comes natural to them thats when u gonna have a problem..

And dis lettin yer dog run loose is the same mind frame that gets bans and all dat bulljive bought up and passed cuz it just takes one time for a scrap to take place and all hell breaks loose... And y would u feed a dog that u couldnt take pride in owning????? If dat was da case just pick u a mutt up off da street and feed it... But dats just me

Seriously though, I've always found it best to stick by the simple rule of waiting at least three hours after partying before posting to message boards. I find that helps me keep my dumbass diatribes and self-righteous sermons to a minimum. At the very least it helps prevent me from telling everybody what to think and making idiotic accusations.

I can assure you Wyomingblonde that ownership of apbt especially "real" apbt does anything but make a person "look good". Especially in today's society with media brainwashed and spoon-fed people such as yourself making up the majority of America's population. About dogs in general, you are ignorant. About apbt and "dogfighters" in particular, you are media programmed and Mis-informed. Historically speaking, no matcher of dogs ever kept a yard of dogs because it made him "look good". They kept dogs because dogs were a way of life to them. Our country's "world nanny" mentality will be its undoing. Its much bigger than dog ownership and whether your dog sleeps in your bed and mine sleeps in a 55 gallon plastic drum stuffed with straw. It will be a very sad day indeed when the only apbt to be seen (the most heroic dog ever created) can only be seen in a book or on some old video. A very sad day indeed.

There have been a lot of great replies here, but I can't help noticing the OP didn't mention having an APBT his/herself, so I hope everyone hasn't wasted time on someone who will never have one anyway(and, from the sound of it, probably shouldn't have one).

I'm glad you brought this up mntman. It's a common myth that APBTs are "trained" to fight. Most are not. I myself have owned several APBTs who were NEVER trained to fight - or even encouraged to do it for that matter - yet they still wanted to do it b/c it's in their genetic code. They don't even have to be "bred" for it - the fight craziest dog I ever had came from weight pull x UKC show blood!

ppl with gamedogs dont have them to walk down the street to look cool and boost their egos!!! idiots with 50 kilo bullies with huge heads do that all the time, they let them loose and they grab some other dog on the street and then we get ppl like you saying the things you say...

regarding the chains i think is being covered. security reasons. some of them even have double collars.

i only got a couple of dogs and i keep them inside since i live in a flat.

  20. I have three APBT's one an American bulldog/APBT and they have scuffles but I never worry. they are always left out with one another and alone for parts of the day. Idk if i've been lucky that nothing has happened or what. But i do realize that we have a fence that is also burried a bit underground so they cant dig out and the fence is tall enough so they dont jump out. My first dog does his own thing and keeps to himself, the mutt is very low energy and doesnt do much, and the third is very hyper and gamey but the boys keep her under control. the only thing that has ever happened was a cat thought he could tease the female and get away with it and the cat is no more.
