shinny coat

  1. No sir, where I live there are no hollistic foods the best commercial food is royal canin and that costs $120 for a 33 lbs. bag here. I feed them cooked food because I had problems with parasites when feeding raw as there is very little control over the food in this country so I cook for them 3 times a week and divide their rations in ziploc bags and just nuke them and feed out.
My dogs daily diet consists of brown rice, meat or chicken, veggies, corn flakes, egg whites, linseeds and a half tooth of garlic. The veggies must be boiled and put in a blender for them to be able to digest it best.
I am currently feeding 15 dogs this way and have fed up to 18. I do it much cheaper here than it costs me for a bag of commercial food and I feel my dogs are stronger and healthier for it so it's worth the effort to me.

Now here is something I have seen done in dog shows that I always laugh at but it does work. Some folks before they show their dog will just slap on some baby oil onto their coats and it sure does make them shine, but it's a "fake" shine if you know what I mean. It works though.

  2. yeah not many people I know feel like becoming wolf gang puck 3 times a week for there dog. But it is great if you can do it. I know over 20 people that use the raw diet and thier animals have never had parasites but It depends on the quality of the meat... everyone has there prefereces

He doesn't live in the US, that would explain the limitations on dog foo choices. I've fee just about everything and while TOTW was great raw can be fed cheaper than what I was paying for TOTW and my dog looks great on it. Its not messy or time consuming. I take maybe 5-7 minutes putting a meal together and the only thing I have to wash are my hands and the cutting board.

I cut up/mash up my vegetables and add flaxseed oil.

  5. ^ OK....that's reasonable...yeah from what I gathered through people I know that once you get the routine down it's not that bad. But My dog checks out super healthy and he only gets hollistic..I'm not puttin down the raw diet...trust me I wish I could do it. I'll look into it alittle more but for what I spend I don't think I could do the same diet ^ about what dose it cost ya?

  6. Did you use one of the diets of this site or did u find it somewhere else. I'll start him on it for sure if I can find a reasonable recipe, most people I know say its much better for them. and obviously they love it too

I spend $30-35 to feed one dog for roughly 3months with raw. I buy chicken quarters, hearts/gizzards, pork &chicken necks. The quarters I get on sale for .49/lb I buy all my meat when its on sale.

  8. nice... where I live the meat is on sale every mon....man. thats way cheaper than what I spend. Once I can get down the prep and all that, I'll try switchin for a while. Is there a specific recipe you use or do you go by this site? I'll take a list of what I need to the butcher..I'm sure he'll cut me some kinda deal

I do a variation of CA Jacks Simple Raw Diet.

Each quarter is about 1 pound so I chop in half.

    6oz of quarter
    3-4oz of necks
    2oz of hearts/gizzards
A handful of vegetable cut up
    Couple spoons of yogurt.
A bit of flax seed oil

This is split into two meals. I give the hearts/gizzards every other day and one egg on the days i don't give organs. I will also add oatmeal or brown rice about 3-4 days a week. I fast on Saturday to give the digestive system a rest. I also will give fish or turkey on some days instead of chicken.

All of the above advice is good. I also recommend vegatable oil on the kibble every other day about a teaspoon. Makes a world of difference.

    Beautiful beautiful.

Yes. Feed raw eggs w/crushed shell. Protein in them and the shell provides calcium and minerals that your dog(s) need. :)

SOoO...... I have been wasting egg shells by throwing them in the garbage disposal after a feed lol. Another reason I love this sight. Does anyone have any other insight or opinions about this about dogs consuming an eggshell. This is the first I've heard of this. My mom used to feed her dogs a whole egg but that was in Haiti and they'd eat anything.

Mix the crushed egg shell in with their food & they will just eat it. Its perfectly safe.
I don't recomend you do it daily. Feed like this every other day/once in a while.
