Took my Benny boy to training today. My trainer was introducing the positions for the between-the-leg escort guard to him today, so I was able to snap a few photos. I also got a video of him doing some bite work. The quality is crappy, but I was happy to have someone there to record it lol You'll see at the one minute mark he totally goofed; decided he'd rather have the tug tube than the sleeve my trainer had! This was only the second time he'd used the jute sleeve, so he showed a favoritism to the more fun toy...Jerk. I also got pictures of my sister's dog Toby (brindle & white).

Benny will be 9 months the first week of February.

Was that you who commented the vid? hahaha. See what I mean?! He is living up to his nickname "Benny the Beast". The Malinois bitch I normally handle is looking like a piece of cake compared to him now; its insane how strong he is getting.

  4. Good work! Looks good! Have you ran into Leri Hanson yet? She also does ring with APBTs out that way. She is a nice lady!

I haven't gone on the trial field yet, but I would love to watch her compete sometime! She is some very nice dogs, and she is an exceptional trainer.

My computer is being slow...So I have not been able to watch the movie. I think you have a beautiful dog though! From the first 12 seconds of the movie, GREAT prey drive!

Just a quick question...why is he teaching the escort with food?

He was a later starter to training; when I first got him my trainer was pissed because he wanted me to get a "real" working dog lol Benny was handed over to me at 3-weeks-old by a co-worker. Around 4 to 5 months my trainer realized I wasn't going to give him up, so that is when we started bite work and obedience. I wonder if maybe he would have been better if I started him training earlier, but he is catching up just fine.

His drive has been increasing so much within the last few weeks. He is out at the end of the harness, dragging me all over the place (as you can see I am a shitty handler, but we are working on that lol), and is focusing much better. When we first started he would bark occasionally and did this frustrating backing up move. Then he was moving forward a lot more, barking non stop, really understanding the game. And now he is barking less again, but is growing in intensity. He is taking it a little more seriously now I think lol He isn't a knuckle head puppy anymore I am learning!

It was the first time my trainer has ever done that with Benny. I don't think he is teaching the escort just yet, but more getting Benny familiarized with the position and being comfortable there. When he hits around 12 months we plan on taking him to other training fields and decoys; that should be exciting!

Yep, that was me. I also added you on YT. He was swinging you around like a doll. lol, you can tell he is really strong.

Also, it's funny his name is benny because my dog Chance's full name is Chance Benjamin and one of his nicknames is benny. -_-;.

I named him after Breaking Benjamin lol I was running errands the day I picked him up, and their song came on my ipod and I thought it sounded like a cute name.

Plus I had seen this video some time ago, and the song playing is by that band. I really love how the video was composed, and the song suits it well. I hope to put something together like this when Benny is older.

I was just curious, I have never seen that really. We teach it a totally different way. Benny seems full of drive! Not sure why your trainer what scoffing at you so much for having a pit bull. That IS a real working dog, just talk to Leri Hanson and she'll tell ya. Better yet, ask Capone!!!

I got the same flack though. Why do you want a Dobermann? Get a Malinois. No, thank you I want a Dobe and I will sit here and pout with my arms crossed and lip sticking out until you give, and lowe and behold! I have a puppy that went through the most intense puppy testing and passed. We could not pass that little boy up!

Oh no, he loves APBTs! He has had bad luck with his past few Mals, so he might give up all together and switch to the bulldog side anyway. He was just flustered that I kept a rescue pup who I had no history on, rather than purchasing a working prospect from good and tested stock. I had been wanting a working dog for so long, he was just looking out for my best interest. But seriously, how could you not love this?! I was attached the moment I laid eyes on him.

And who is having the last laugh?! Benny is a bad ass. He is even developing into a weight pull, dock diving, and agility prospect. Honestly, it is not too often that you get a unknown rescue pup and have it turn out so well. If I didn't know better I would think I actually paid someone decent money for him haha

You go and show off your Doberman! Especially in Schutzhund; they are so "If it's not a GSD it's useless!" lol It is up to us non-traditional protection sport dog owners to get out there and stomp on some furry shepherd butt!

Oh yeah, and how do you train the escort? I am all for hearing different methods. We are very into the Michael Ellis motivational and food/tug reward kind of training right now. It's working out, his obedience is coming along wonderfully.
