What is everyone's opinion on battle crosses? Are you in favor of them, or aren't? Why?

basically two tight linebred dogs of two different family/bloodlines and stick em 2 eachother,
not really to produce but more for the []. although there's one dogman that had a scattered dog and supposedly ended up one of his top broods!?!?!

Just to be an ass, how is Eli crossed with jeep a battle cross? Wasn't jeep's grandsire a son of Eli? Anyway nice looking dog. All bullshit aside some great dogs came from the same "cross"?. Who knows about those dogs from way back in the day?

Bullyson was Jeep's grandsire thru honeybunch, Jeep's bottom side was Eli from his mother. His great grandsire was Eli.

Jeep and Eli are two different lines which gives you a Battle cross.

depends what you want to do with the dog. 50/50 crosses are good for competing because of the added vigor. But, even if they turn out good, they generally won't reproduce themselves (not prepotent)
My favorite is a 3/4-1/4 cross because they can potentially perform and produce.

From a historical and performance perspective, do you think a battle cross would work better, or are they curs with ability that would quit when the going gets tough? Historically speaking, a lot of battle crosses and scatterbreds were thought to be curs, but performance wise, the hybrid vigour is supposed to produce a dog with more ability. The question is, more specifically, which dogs would you prefer to utilize in performing tasks, such as catch work etc.?

they tend to perform very well. ppl dont like them is bc they dont tend to reproduce as well as they perform. i would just take them back to a parent to gain some consistency and tighten the blood up. if u want a worker then a battle cross is perfect

But at what point does a "battle cross" simply become another line... like Jeep/Redboy.. two seperate lines that alot of people basically consider it its own line now seeing as its such a popular cross... And at what point does "battle cross" become a scatterbred dog?

Kind of a funny thing to say DP considering some of the best producers of all time we not bred tightly, but were crosses of different blood.

too many folks use it as a crutch for there breeding program. sure most of the ROM dogs are a cross, but there were lots of folks that didn't report. i prefer inbred dogs from outcrossed dogs from tight family that can stand on there own.

It's always better to breed for gameness and hope for ability- not the other way around.

true, its not a rule just a tendency. either way i dont really care, im just answering the question. I have a battle crossed pup in a kennel a few feet away from me right now:p
and just bc a dog is a cross doesnt make it a battlecross
its about being a bulldog, not about being pure or tight IMO
