Don't you think it is better to have it, and not need it...then to need it, and not have it? A bulldog should be built durable....in the world of performance dogs I don't believe that having a thin frame is going to do you any justice...You can have all the bulldog in the world, but if he isn't durable you are spinning your wheels. Can't win with four flat tires.

Well, I don't personally think it was an exception.

It's like a tall rangy boxer, they have to have a diff style. And if ur breeding for a specific style, u need to select a body type that accentuates it. I had more than 1 like him.

I'm not saying that its the "only" correct body type, I'm just saying I don't see why you think dogs built that way can't compete. Go back to OLD bull/terrier crosses and you'll def see the "lurcher" type dogs with whippet and the like in them were even used in the pits way back when. So I just think the body style HAS a place and don't make them "incorrect" any more than the boxier type dogs that kept placing over my "whippet" type dogs years back when I was going to adba shows.

minuteman, you don't have to convince me. we probably like the same style of dog. ALL of my good dogs were tall for their weight. the ADBA show dogs of today are nothing like ch. vengence. vengence WAS a performance dog and he proved it. put him in an adba show ring with matthew's owner judging and I bet he doesn't place, he isn't the show 'type' just like he would not place in an AKC showring or UKC showring, they have their own 'breed type'.
what the adba is doing is changing the type of dog to fit their competition. they did the same thing with the weightpull dogs in the past, they created, or allowed to be created a new 'type' of weightpull dog and call it an apbt, remember whopper dogs??
I wonder why jack didn't breed to vengence? I like his ped alot better than the typical inbred poncho dogs.

    Absolutely LOVE him!!!

Ok, I must have just seen pics of the "better" dogs off that matthew dog. And I havnt been to an adba show in over 5 years. I thought the 2 "show" dogs posted by other forum members earlier were good loocking animals.

Can somebody show me one of the dogs you guys are talking about then? Like I said the few pictures I saw were of decent looking dogs, matthew included. But maybe it was an older picture when he was better looking as u mentioned.

I relate it this way... We all know the different positions in football...

    Who is the best athlete?????

Big ole offensive lineman, 6 feet 4 inches and 320lbs??? (think bully breed)
Middle Linebacker 6 feet 2 and 250lbs??? (UKC Standard)
    Or
The wide recievers of late, 6 feet 4 and 220lbs... zero body fat and the fastest, highest jumping most athletic guy on the team??? This is what the ADBA strives for... the best proportioned to be the MOST athletic... These are also the guys who have to go across the middle and take thit from those middle linebackers so most have some heart to go alon with the rest of the package...
